I'm knitting the last pair of #autumngoalssocks for this year. They will be back with the new year and I want to test a different yarn. But, if you want to knit a pair for yourself or ad a gift, you can find the pattern (English, Italian and Spanish) in my shops (all the links are in my bio and a direct one is in the highlight stories!).
Hey guys, its me, Kat! If you haven't met me already, I'm the designer behind Pamut Apparel. I make almost every Pamut piece by hand!! This week, I'm working on making patterns for two new t-shirt styles. For the first time, I'm expanding beyond one-size tees and I'm making sizes S-XL! So excited to have these ready for you guys.
This quote from the amazing @TIME Person of the Year article is still bringing tears to our eyes. We are so proud of the way women are continuing to speak up and stand together even in the face of fear. Let's keep speaking truth and shining a light on what some have tried to keep in the darkness for so long. #metoo
Around this time last year we were with the beautiful Samnang (pictured middle) in Takeo Province in Cambodia. She and her family looked after us for two nights and showed us the beautiful weaving from her local area for @goelcommunity. Samnang was very cheeky and even rode us around on the back of motorbikes for joyrides to visit artisans. We are so grateful for our experience with you and the warmth and generosity you showed us, we miss you Samnang! Hopefully we’ll see that big smile of yours when we visit again one day 🏍
Aaaaand that’s a wrap! From the bottom of my heart, huge thanks to all y’all’s support this season 🖤 If anyone needs any last minute gifts I’ll be in the studio this week so you’re welcome to swing by or reach out!
This is the new fair trade movement where the global is made local because you know how, where, and by whom your products are made. The new fair trade is more than just a label you’re expected to trust. It connects you with the process and the stories of the artisans behind your favorite lifestyle accessories.
This year we’ve faced a lot of difficulties with sellers on Amazon using our name and photos to sell cheap knockoffs made in Chinese factories; we’ve faced design theft by huge dealers in Nepal who use desperate village women outside Kathmandu to make their bracelets, paying them but a pittance; we’ve had to come to terms with a complete overhaul of the Etsy policies that now allow mass manufacturing and no longer require that stores be the actual makers of their bracelets.
All these changes and difficulties have tested us and our resolve, however that is life! Nothing just comes. Movements take time and to the people at the heart of them, they matter. In the midst of all this, we’ve come to realize that our customers demand more. You are smart and know the difference. You want to know the stories behind the products you choose, see how they are made, connect face to face and name to name with your artisans.
There are two models of consumerism growing right now. One is the continued trend of mass consumerism driven by fast fashion and cheap unethical labor. The other is organic, grassroots, person to person, ethical and sustainable. Fast is not always better (although we do crochet pretty darn quickly!).
Thank you to all of you who believe in our project and our mission; to those of you who value being able to write to us with a custom color combination and have a bracelet made just for you; to those of you who connect with us on social media and tell us what you want to see more of! You make it all possible and there is so much gratitude in our hearts for you.
You know, it goes both ways: not only do consumers want to know their artisans, artisans want to know their customers. One of the best aspects to what we do is really getting to know you. Keep the stories and suggestions coming! And Happy Holidays!! ❤️
