Slow Saturday mornings, just how I like them. The only way it could be improved was if Daddy wasn't working. We've had a fairly busy week this week, so it's nice to not have plans. Other than the daily dog walk I don't know what our day will consist of. I'm always on the search for places to take Oliver where he can be free to play and explore. Although last Saturday's soft play attempt will not be repeated! (Far too many older children!) 🌿
We spent over 2hrs, no joke, trying to get our chickens back in the coop in time for us to go to the @forestplaygroup. Despite our sweat-bearing efforts and the hysterically enthusiastic skills of Oisin & Caoimhe, this morning the chickens won.
Makena and I whipped up some homemade, essential-oil-infused elderberry syrup using locally sourced raw honey. I started taking elderberry syrup regularly years ago after reading a study showing that elderberry flavonoids bind to and prevent H1N1 infection, with an efficacy equal to or greater than leading anti-influenza drugs. The essential oils were added in part to turbo-boost the immune support, but also to help with uptake and delivery of the elderberry. Emerging research continues to show that essential oils increase bioavailability and absorption of various orally-administered herbal and conventional remedies. Plus, the oils have therapeutics benefits of their own.
So bring it on, Winter! Our immune systems are ready for you. 💪🏼 #thisishowwehomeschool#bulletproofimmunity#worksgreataspancakesyruptoo
Towards the end of every trail, I let Bee get down out of the pack and hike the rest of the way on her own two feet. I like to be able to get us a good way into the wilderness by hiking with them in the packs for most of the way but I also like for Bee to have the chance to explore at her own pace 🐢 every detail. But today, we saw some trail runners and she was interested in what they were doing. As soon as she hopped out of the pack, she was making little cartoon dust clouds with her feet as she ran the whole rest of the trail 🐇! I think it's officially time: I gotta let her hike on her own 😀💪😢
Another good day thrifting 🖤Those cute little boho cane shelves took a good three times over to get clean (nothing a little vinegar and a toothbrush can’t fix! 💪🏼😷) And they may now permanently be my daughter’s dollies’ bunk beds 😉
Here's my 2016/17 book stack. I'm a pretty slow reader but I always like to be reading something! So many good ones here... by far the one that most impacted me was "Falling Free". The hardest to read was "Underground Railroad" due to the brutality but so important as well. I feel every Christian should read "Torn" by Justin Lee, whether you agree or not we have a lot to grow in how we love in this area.
I think I have time for one more book after finishing up "A Man Called Ove" and then we'll be into next years stack.
So tell me, what should be included in my 2017/18 stack? I need some book recommendations!!! 📚 ❤️
Oh, I also read "For the Children Sake" by Shannon McKauley but gave it back to its owner! A great resource for homeschool mama's.
Andererseits so wehmütig...
Aber das kennt Ihr Mamas ja alle!
Little guy is feeling under the weather and has been refusing to eat much of anything. If you know him, you know this is not at all normal for him. He wouldn't even eat goldfish crackers for a snack today.....his favorite. Sigh.
So he snuggled on in with daddy and I put some Thieves on the bottom of his feet and he hung out until bedtime when I put R.C. for some extra breathing support and Lavender for some great sleep support in his diffuser.
We did the bedtime routine with his oils, sang a couple songs and laid him down and He. Was. Out. Not a peep. Ususally he's chirping away for a least another hour in his room afterwards. Poor little guy. 😢 Hoping he's feeling better by the morning. It hurts my momma heart when he's not feeling well and hurting. 💙
Unicorns in the news!! 😍 My piece on parenting creative, sensitive children just went live on @elephantjournal, and if you’ve got kids in your life I’d be honored if you’d give it a read. Every like, comment, and share helps me keep advocating for all our magical kiddos!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Link in the bio...💖🦄😍
Another nursery visit down. I can not believe I have only two weeks left before I return to work. I know some people look forward to it, to getting some normality back and adult conversation during the day. I am not one of those people. I could happily spend all my days with my little buddy and the thought of being away from him for 8hrs 3 days a week is hideous. I am so envious of mothers who are able to stay home with their little ones until they're a little older. I don't want to miss a moment of these precious baby years. 🌿
Dear Jack, you are 6 months old today! What can I say, Love? I pretty much think you’re amazing. I see things in you that others may not see, and possibly would not find amazing. Things my pre-baby self would have yawned at. But as your Mother, it’s my job to see them in you, and to tell you *genuinely* how fantastic you are. I love watching the way you can barrel through life with boundless passion and energy not even flinching when your strength hasn't caught up to your intention (I understand...) and you clumsily hurt yourself. I also love the way you slow down and see everything in front of you as Art- the ocean, a straw, paintings in a coffee shop, lights and people at the burning man after party we accidentally took you to (😂😳😬) leaves swaying. You don't miss much. Also, you're funny. So freaking funny. Belly laughing with you is everything, and we do it often. Your favorite things are your bunny from Great Grandma, an empty wipes wrapper, the Dexter (and Ghostbusters) theme songs and taking a bath with Kona. I love (and hate!) when you're crying and I scoop you up and you breathe deep and staggered with your neck nuzzled against mine, totally relieved. I hope to remain one of your safe spaces in life. I will hold you, whatever you got. Thank you for making us a family. Thank you for letting me watch your dad, become a fun, enthusiastic, protective, loving and hard working papa bear. Thank you for the rare times you've slept 3 hours at a time. Thank you for sharing yourself with me as I’ve fumbled my way through this half-year. You see, it’s the first semi anniversary of my motherhood. It’s the marker of my survival. Today is a profound reminder of how much deeper and wider my life, my heart has become with you in it. You have shown me a strength in myself I have never (had) to tap into before, exposing the power of a mother's love. So thank you, my Love. I could not have made it through these months without your smile. And coffee. Lots and lots of coffee....
Our next day we will spend in a museum. We will sleep and eat here. I am not kidding. Our beautiful stone rental house in a mountain village Lofou is so authentic! It’s kind of magic to be here, thank you @Airbnb/ближайшие сутки мы будем спать и есть в...
#passeandocomcriancas#slowparenting#parqueibirapuera
#tbt from last weekend's hike. Thinking about what trail to do this weekend and realizing how lucky we are to have tons of great ones to chose from. Boulder County has something like 425 miles of trails and thats not counting the many miles of trails a short drive away (ahem, Rocky Mountain National Park). No wonder National Geographic just ranked Boulder the happiest city in the country...it's all that nature! 🌲🌲🌲
Travelling days have weirdly become days I quite enjoy, rather than dread, with a little one in tow. We travelled from phi phi to Phuket - 2 boat journeys and a taxi .. not a crazy long journey (about 5 hours door to door), but that's only because we are breaking up the journey to Koh sok, which is another 4 hour bus journey tomorrow. We've learned to take it slow, plan for all eventualities, not have an agenda when we arrive, and try to approach it all with a sense of fun, so that Otis enjoys it. Somehow as a result, I really quite enjoy it too. We talk to people on route, we play games, we do hide and seek in random places, and at the end of it all, there always seems to be a beautiful sky like this one, and the three of us together to appreciate it 🌅
