#Repost from @serenitydrums - New sculpted kit reveal. This is a special one, @jon_serenity's drum kit portrait of the amazing @tankandthebangas, @1drum and the great city of New Orleans.
The 22x17.5 kick, 12x8 tom and 16x15 floor are carved from a storm felled English Ash tree that Jon, @pd_serenity and @dan_serenity rescued four years ago. The shells are audio-carved as Jon's portrait-in-tone impression and expression of the musical, poetic and joyful rhythmic genius of the band. The look, painted by Jon, visually reflects the inspiration he felt while spending time in New Orleans visiting with the band, exploring the city and experiencing such marvels like @neworleans.airlift (go there, seriously). The snare: 14x7, carved from two very exotic, historic woods, both reclaimed from Teddington Lock of Londons River Thames dated 1948 to 2013: Greenheart, an Amazon Rainforest giant, known as the strongest wood in the world, and Ekki, a West African Rainforest giant in the top list of hardest woods known to man. Both of these exotic woods resonate unbelievable tones, but combined in this Serenity sculpted snare have become a superpower. Their history contains every decade of London since WWII. The Beatles walked on it in the 60's, Monty Python shot their infamous 'Fish Slapping Dance' on it in the 70's (you can see them stood on the wood in the film). This snare is the first and currently only snare drum to be made from these two woods together, the rich history within their fibres makes it one of the most unique snares ever made, its tone just as incredible and unique as its existence. More on this snare and the amazing handover we had today to come, perhaps even with a short video of @1drum playing it in Jons kitchen!
