Experimenting with light and locations. Looking for different angles in the City can lead to photos that are a departure from my established way of working. This lets me continually be learning about my development as a photographer, seeking to push oneself is the only way to develop your way of seeing.
A few years ago I was involved in a social upliftment program. If involved going into informal settlements where I had to document certain processes. This image was made in Diepsloot north of Joburg. A crime ridden place, overcrowded and very short of all amenities such as water, electricity. From the outside an intimidating sprawl of shacks and litter. What struck me most once we entered was how many people were just hanging around, unemployment is very high, and how much care people take to keep their living areas clean and tidy. Not easy to achieve under very tough conditions. Ticking bombs these areas. People with nothing, not even hope, and nothing to lose. We ignore this at out peril. #socialdocumentaryphotography#streetphotography#blackandwhitephoto#kitchen#poverty#povertyisnotacrime#male

Traces of the financial world in this image is the signage on the world behind the guy. I also had to wait for someone to appear and put them in a place within the frame so they where clearly defined against the background.
It's the final day of #librariesweek so here's a few shots I took for a project celebrating libraries. As one of the few remaining municipal buildings available for public use, people visit libraries not just to borrow books but to participate in social activities.
Baby rhyme time offers a chance of developing early literacy by introducing infants to the world of books, rhyme and music. It's a chance for new mums and dads, grandparents and child minders to come together and share their experiences of looking after little ones.
Libraries are cornerstones of our communities, they are places for us to connect, support and learn with others. Libraries welcome everyone and they are free! Use them don't lose them! .

On the way to London Bridge just after lunch, on this day I had forgotten to pick up my spare battery, so I was forced to head home early as I had nearly run out of battery power in my camera. I had made 350 images in the space of 2 1/2 hours and this is on my way back to London Bridge. So note to self: remember the spare battery always!
