Here's a great photo from @yeastus_of_nazareth who spent a day of wine tasting at our winery in the Barossa. We were told our Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 Vintage was their favourite... it's definitely a crowd pleaser! 🍷

Scenes of last nights Intimate evening with @jimbarrywines @table426
Jim Barry wines are based in Clare Valley South Australia. Clare Valley has higher altitude and cool nights. The result is wines that retain great natural acidity.
1st Course was Canapés with the Annabelle’s Rose 2017. Great Rosé. Pretty, soft, delicate recurrent flavour profile and balanced acidity.
2nd Course was Tempura Flat head and prawn and The Lodge Hill Riesling 2017. Mineral, floral, crisp, citrus, and that synthetic rubber aroma. This wine was a fantastic example of Clare Valley Riesling. The Vineyards for this wine are at sitting at 480 metres and the highest in The Clare. The result is just this acidic backbone that made it such a food friendly and refreshing wine.
3rd Course. The McRae Wood Shiraz 2014. The dish was a Lamb Fillet wrapped in Prosciutto, carrots asparagus parsnip puree and balsamic jus.
Things got a little more premium with the McRae Wood Shiraz. First impression was WOW. I could of stuck my nose in the glass for hours, pronounced aromas of black berry fruits, had a forrest floor or earthy component and supported by soft vanilla oak. The wine on the palate was so well balanced you could just taste quality wine making practices again that supported acidity and fine tannin structure with such a persistent finish it honestly kept going. With a beautiful piece of lamb I couldn’t really complain.
The evening was hosted by Brendan Bate a representative from Jim Barry wines.
Brendan was a complete gentlemen and he really made us understand the passion the wine makers put into the glass a great great quote he used in reference to our last wine Single Vineyard Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 was “Shiraz is like the girl that opens the door for you wearing nothing but a towel and you see her straight away. Where as Cabernet is that girl that opens the door, still wearing the towel but you have to go in and find her” And really gets you thinking about our attitudes towards drinking wine, giving it a chance, give it time. A fantastic night and the company was great also. Cheers 🍷

More during the week greatness.
Affordability + food friendless + yummy = a great mid week choice.
Kirrihill regional Selection Cabernet Sauvignon from Clare Valley exceeds in the above equation. A delight to drink, dark fruits, charred wood, cassis, cedar and vanilla oak well integrated. A good amount of fruit weight on the palate with a firm tannin structure that stands up to tonights Steaks, roast potatoes and vegetables. I can see it developing more complexity within the next 5 years. Lucky I have a few in the cellar 😜 Cheers. 🍷

Wendouree Cabernet Malbec 2014
A lovely way to return to regular transmission after a little hiatus.
Plush herbaceousness with a sprinkling of black pepper, warmer tones of fresh brewed coffee and sweet cocoa, and - oddly as the evening evolved - bitumen on a hot day. Medium bodied, initially, the quintessential blackcurrants and eucalypt, then Victoria plums and an earthen savouriness, given dimension by dark fruited acidity and pliant, surprisingly approachable tannins.

Took a bunch of Victorians to the #Coonawarra this weekend. They loved this quirky cellar door and were blown away by @bellwetherwines - I think you can expect to hear more from the Warrnambool wine club, Sue!
