Taking a break to get out and walk around. I have about 3 hrs till im home. I wash i could have taken some pictures when i stopped for a sleep and all the stars... Even in the dark #kansas#nebraska and #iowa are pretty! #southdakota and #northdakota have been good driving also.... I have noticed that a solid 70 to 80% of drivers do NOT use their signals when changing lanes though. Frustrating as heck when travelling along and suddenly they change lanes with no warning. I'll stop in #grandforksND for lunch and then it'll feel like I'm on the home stretch. #travel#newscenery#almosthome#lebennettleather
Day 12 and coming to the end of the #greatamericanroadtrip
Watching the videos in the visitors center on how much work went into creating Mount Rushmore is just insane.
Does anyone else have a love for visitors centers? I love my time at any of them for the the sheer amount of information and resources available. It really opens up history for me being able to learn from photos, videos, artifacts and then going out and experiencing the land/monuments we are there to see... It's incredible!
Roofing crews have been replacing roofs all over the Sioux City area ever since a wind and hail storm hit us this summer. Here roofers are sillouetted by Wednesday night's setting sun as they work on the roof of a church in Dakota Dunes, SD.
Rush, rush, rush
Hurry up & wait
Billy Squier- Lonely Is The Night
Lonely is the night when you find yourself alone
Your demons come to light and your mind is not your own
Lonely is the night when there's no one left to call
You feel the time is right, say the writing's on the wall
It's a high time to fight when the walls are closin' in
Call it what you like it's time you got to win
Lonely, lonely, lonely your spirit's sinkin' down
You find you're not the only stranger in this town
Red lights, green lights, stop and go jive
Headlines, deadlines jammin' your mind
You been stealin' shots from the side
Let your feeling's go for a ride
There's danger out tonight, the man is on the prowl
Get the dynamite, the boys are set to howl
Lonely is the night when you hear the voices call
Are you ready for a fight, do you wanna take it all?
Slowdown, showdown waitin' on line
Show time, no time for changin' your mind
Streets are ringin', march to the sound
Let your secrets follow you down
Somebody's watchin' you baby, so much you can do
Nobody's stoppin' you baby, from makin' it too
One glimpse'll show you now baby, what the music can do
One kiss'll show you now baby, it can happen to you
No more sleepin', wastin' our time
Midnight creepin's, first on our minds
No more lazin' 'round the TV
You'll go crazy, come out with me
Lonely is the night
Lonely is the night
Lonely, lonely, lonely
Prairie trifecta. Prairie dogs are a keystone species and if you spend time at prairie dog colonies you will notice a ton of other wildlife species. Some like this coyote and badger (who were hunting cooperatively-it was awesome to watch these behaviors) forage on pdogs, others like rattlesnakes and burrowing owls use their burrows. Our current site is at the stronghold of black-footed ferret recovery and we see tons of ferruginous hawks and eagles daily. Love to see productive grasslands.
Badlands itself, by definition, are a type of dry terrain where softer sedimentary rocks and clay-rich soils have been extensively eroded by wind and water. They are characterised by steep slopes, minimal vegetation, lack of a substantial regolith, and high drainage density. They can resemble Malpaís, a terrain of volcanic rock. Canyons, ravines, gullies, buttes, mesas, hoodoos and other such geologic forms are common in badlands. They are often difficult to navigate by foot. Badlands often have a spectacular colour display that alternates from dark black/blue coal stria to be bright clays to red scoria.
