Day 2 of #symmetricalyogabody !
Literally have never done a full split in my life. I would always try, but my body was just not ready. I now know that that's okay, but for a while I totally gave up on the idea of even attempting it because I was so disappointed, to be honest.
BUT I gave it a try yesterday after a class of intense hip/hamstring/quad opening. And letting go of this hope of what I would look like or maybe even a fear of the posture itself, I got a lot further than I thought I would! Truthfully not sure why I have never used props for support in this pose, but definitely makes a world of difference!
Pro tip- find a friend who recognizes your struggle who will tell you to "pretend there are 10 puppies running towards you," causing you to then geek out and obnoxiously smile and forget how tight your legs are for at least .5 seconds 😋
One year ago today I tore my piriformis and strained my hamstring and tendons. It still bothers me 365 days later. My range of motion has slowly come back but not completely. I still have days where my hip throbs and lengthening of any kind isn't in the cards.
I wonder if it will ever feel "normal" again or if my range of motion will get back to where it was. But then I realize all the things this injury taught me. It helped me find my love for Yin and appreciate where my body can go. It helped me find patience. It helped me really listen to my body and accept it's limitations. It made me cry, feel frustrated and defeated and showed me I could move past that defeat. #nashvilleyoga#selflove#recovery#split#hanumanasana
