We now have a bed!!! Pretty pleased how it all came together in the end. Obviously still have the panels and storage doors/lids to go on, but the basic frame is solid as a rock. Mattress arrived too, but they sent the wrong depth foam, so we’re waiting on a replacement. #vanlife#sprintervanlife#selfbuild#selfbuildcamper
One of the best memories I have as a kid was a week long camping trip that my dad took me on in the outback of Australia 🇦🇺 I have four older siblings so a week alone camping with my old man was a real treat. We played catch, 🏈 named rock faces on hikes, ate ramen and peaches, 🍜 played cards and enjoyed the peace of the outdoors.
Teddy Roosevelt once said “There is a delight in the hardy life of the open. There are no words that can tell the hidden spirit of the wilderness that can reveal its mystery, its melancholy and its charm." I believe in the call of the wild. There is something wild and fierce in the spirit of every man and woman that calls them back to the beauty and wonder of Gods creations. #heedthecall 🌲⛰🌲
Oh wow! I made such good food tonight! I'm loving my 3qt Instant Pot!
On Sauté I sautéed some onions in coconut oil, then added 1lb of grass feed beef. Pressed sauté a second time while I cut up half a head of cauliflower. Added that, half a jar of crushed tomatoes, a couple leaves of kale, chopped, salt, pepper, cayenne, some water. Mixed that all together and topped it with half a delicata.
High pressure for 7 min with natural release. I think I could have done 5 min instead.
So good! Yum!
Aaron asked if I wanted to drive Miss Frida and despite being a confident driver, usually I say no but yesterday I grabbed the steering wheel and faced my fears. We drove through our first natural park in Spain. We felt like imposters, the wildlife ruled the land and the sea so wild, she roared without control, untouched by others. I think the atmosphere penetrated my soul and before I knew it, I was driving onto the open sands. Aaron who was making us a coffee in our mini kitchen went flying from side to side. ‘What are you DOING?!, we will get stuck!’ He starts shouting but I don’t care, my rebel heart in full dance and I wanted Frida to be as close to the sea as possible and this was my chance. Eventually I came to a stop and after Aaron had calmed down, we decided to stay a while; I shaved his hair, we swam naked in the sea and had our coffees. But in the distance, we could see a smaller van had pulled up in the sand too but they looked stuck, their wheel appeared as though it was spinning deeper and losing all traction in the sand. We drove Frida to help in case they needed support and it turns out they did. With the help of rope and some brute force, Miss Frida pulled the Volkswagen Transporter out in one fell swoop. We all rejoiced at our victory and Aaron and I felt waves of proudness of our van. She might not look like a cute wee van that you see all over Instagram but she’s a workhorse; strong, powerful and totally deserving of her name 🌷
Another Sunday, another #vanproject ... most of the ceiling panels installed with help from mini-me (till he out grows me next year), top wall hopefully done today. So much of it is #custom it takes longer to do every cut. Www.boutside.org #boutside
For those of you who have been wondering what the inside of the van will (sort of) look like!! Please excuse the weird materials, there weren't too many options ... 😂 everything is to scale! THANKS FOR THE FREE SOFTWARE @sketchup_official
The bed is really starting to take shape!
We were initially going to use 25mm ply for the bed walls, but in the end opted for the Scandinavian sauna look.
This way the supports for the middle are already build into the design, aaaaand it satisfies that small part of us that really wanted panelling on the walls but couldn't afford it 😢
