A longer post.
Saturday I got up early at 5 to prep for a long day of media and racing at the @ocrwc I knew it would be even longer when the gondola didn’t start till 10 and I was asked to run up the mountain with the leaders and get live streams for the viewers at home. So I took off and did it, it’s what I always do.
My wave was at three pm after shooting all morning.
I raced journeyman for a verity of reasons. I qualified for pro, and age many times over, but fate had it I raced the last wave of the day. It was all I had available. Before my race I took a knee and started to think about my long year. At this moment @coach_pain started hitting way to close to the chest at the start line. He started talking about people he knew that had been dealing with death in families. He talked about friends dealing with cancer. He talked about people picking fights with you and you trying to just keep moving. When Coach yelled “Why is it so hard for a person to do what is right and good in this world?” I cried. I felt every ounce of this year on my shoulders. Every breath, every early morning, every time I just kept going and pushing harder when at times I didn’t understand. 2017 was heavy. But in the moment I knew I wasn’t alone in this long journey. I was ready make my mark. .
I stoop up, wiped a tear away from my eye, and knew I wanted to run hard. Really hard. I kept my band, I ran a hard amazing race, but more I forced myself to heal some. It was the most technical course I had ever been on. I needed that. .
I fought through earlier waves, rain, the mountain, and all the obstacles. I just kept moving. All I wanted to do was move faster and faster. With a time of 2:37 I was in the top ten of that wave from 67 countries. Honestly the numbers are nice, but don’t amount to much. What matters is how we use our experiences to heal, and grow. Thank you to all the amazing friends that saw me through this year and helped me when I needed it. .
May we all heal and grow.
