Motivational Monday! Highlights from my absolutely awesome workout! Apologies for the shoty video. Camera work by my trainer @paezfitness.....who is a much better strength and conditioning coach than videographer. And yes as a matter of fact I have a personal trainer. Top Toronto trainer has her own trainer....one of the best I might say! Paez Fitness has relocated to Miami, Florida so my one on one sessions don't happen as frequent as I would like them to. But when when my coach is not training pro athletes, and is in Toronto, you bet we are crushing a few sessions. Highlights from my weekend workout. Everyone needs a coach. Every great athlete made it to where they are today with the guidance of specialists. Does your personal trainer learn new things? Have they taken guidance, knowledge or mentorship from someone? Or do they act like they know it all? Learning is constant, especially in this day and age. One thing I have learned over time is that progression in exercise is not constant. There are ups and downs. Progression is more like a staircase than a slant up. Slowly making it back to my 1 rep max PR of 225 lbs. Its been a slow recovery from an ankle I injury I sustained over a year ago. I didn't just injure my ankle..... I injured my ego.  I lost a lot of thickness in my legs and glutes which was hard to accept. I may have even prolonged my recovery because I was impatient and didn't give my body time to heal. I am almost completely recovered. Should be hitting that PR of 225 Inshallah in a matter of weeks. I cherish strength and power over everything. Accepting myself for where I am and who I am comes above all. We will not be able to revolutionize anything if we cannot physically fight. Capitalism and patriarchy attempt to make our bodies weak. So grateful to feel well enough to exercise! That's something to be grateful for! I've always been active, and enjoyed working out and both teaching and taking dance classes... but since I stopped dancing halfway through my 3rd pregnancy, it's been hard to make exercise the priority that it should be. And honestly, that used to be the last thing I would want to do at the end of the day... I used to be wiped out and ready to "roll up the sidewalks" (as my mama likes to say!). But since plexus... yes, I still get tired (being a busy mama will do that to you!) But running in the evening is now an option -- and it's an option that I've been regularly enjoying with my hot coach!! ;) ;) I can't tell you how grateful I am to feel this good!!! 🎉🎉 Do I feel vulnerable in telling you all this... yes! But it is so worth it, if it encourages one person to take a closer look at Plexus.

Started the day off with activating those glutes before my workout! So many of us sit a lot of the day or if we do move around, we don't use our glutes as much as we should. This can lead to lower back pain, hip pain, knee and ankle pain. No good.

Activation exercises can 1) get the muscles loosened so you use the right muscles for squats, lunges, etc and 2) make that backside much perkier 😁

I spent this past weekend auditing the FMS Level 2 Course, which is all about how to correct mobility and stability issues, in a simple movement assessment called Functional Movement Screen. It is one that I do with all my clients prior to working with them. Although I took this course a couple of years ago, it was great to get a refresher and collaborate with other trainers. Amongst my goals for all my clients, in addition to them reaching their fitness and health goals, is to help them move better than they ever have before. As FMS puts it- "Move Well. Move Often". If you stop moving, you stop living!

Sometimes people think that what I do is all about working out 💪🏋️‍♀️...wrong 🚫! We strengthen our bodies, yes, but we also strengthen our emotions, our beliefs, our souls. 🌅🌈🌻🌸🌼 We challenge ourselves and then overcome those challenges. We reach out to each other and we support one another. We do workout daily and eat healthy, but we also read 📖📚 to help us develop ourselves and who we are. That's one of the things that has helped me the most actually. Reading is powerful. I would know, I'm an English teacher! I used to think self help books were a crock of 💩 though until I actually started reading them. I enjoy them now because they motivate me to become who I've always wanted to become and get over this shy fearfulness. I will keep telling myself that its not just about losing the weight. It's about finding yourself. And me? I will be a badass! 🤘👍🤜 I will be a badass mom, teacher, friend, leader, entrepreneur, and more. You'll see! Come train to be a badass with me! So for any back pain and in particular nerve and inflammation in the body, it's important to get the right nutrients to support it. In particular tomatoes, olive oil, green leafy veg, nuts, oily fish and fruits like berries, oranges and cherries. So I'm going to try and avoid the big Op, eat well and see my trusty Sophie for post rehab exercises at @cobhamclinic_healthandbeauty

Teach your core to resist flexion, extension, and rotational forces that will carry over and enhance performance, as well as protect your low back. I've posted about this in the past- dead bugs, single arm carry variations, Plank variations, etc. are all simple and effective, just be consistent! . Enhance your performance, increase your gains... just saying...

Bronwyn Weetman – Yoga Instructor 
Bron came across yoga in 2000 while living in the UK, it gave her the tools to cope with the stresses of a busy career as a professional chef. As soon as she stepped onto the mat it felt like home and she knew that yoga would always be part of her life.
