Residents and visitors are invited to view Sandy-related materials, sign the museum’s 5-year anniversary reflection book, and enjoy hot beverages and desserts together. The Turquoise Cup, a pottery craft studio from the Monroe Center that recently fully reopened after being hard-hit by Superstorm Sandy, will also be providing children and adults with the opportunity to create their own pottery artwork.

#TBT: Hurricane Sandy damage in my neighborhood 5 years ago. Thankfully, my friends and family were safe but the recovery for some was more challenging.
If you have the means, please consider donating to the victims of the recent weather events in this country: Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, California. Any little bit counts and there are lots of organizations doing great work on the ground.

When Jersey Shore United was first getting underway, it was right after Sandy hit. There was so much need from so many people, but I had no volunteers, no resources, and no money at that time. So I just started praying. I asked God to show me a way to be able to help these people who had been devastated from this storm. And that’s when the Robin Hood Foundation granted us five hundred thousand dollars to get JSU rolling. That was in January of 2013, less than two months after Sandy struck the Jersey Shore.
.
My wife and I lived through Sandy ourselves. We had to leave our home in the pitch black night in waist-high water while 80 mph winds were howling around us. We lost everything we owned. We had four feet of water in our home, we lost both of our cars, and I lost my job because I worked from home. We had to live in a camper for two years while we got a home established for ourselves, all while running Jersey Shore United. We know intimately what other people were going through in the Jersey Shore from Sandy. (Continued in comments)

With the 5th anniversary of Sandy just a couple of weeks away, and with Portraits of the Jersey Shore’s doing a weeklong series on the people impacted by Sandy, I am going to share with you all my story of Sandy. But this story is so much more than my story... It is really in honor of the hundreds of neighborhoods all around the shore that went through the disaster that was Sandy, some to this day struggling to fully recover.…
.
My family stayed overnight at our dear friends’ house on the west side of Toms River when Sandy struck. We woke up in the middle of the night to a text from a neighbor who lived across the street from us, that decided to stayed in their home. She told us that their jet ski smashed into their back sliding glass door from a wall of water that came out of nowhere, and they had to evacuate in chest deep water at 2am. We were frantic to find out what happened to our own home.
.
The next day we got to our neighborhood and the streets were flooded almost waist deep for as far as the eye could see. My heart was in my throat as a neighbor loaned me a two seat kayak, and my good buddy Mike and I kayaked the 7 blocks to my house. The water was to the the top of my back stairs. I went to get in the back door, only to realize I left the house keys back at the car with my wife and son, so they could keep the heat on inside. It was so cold that day. (The photo you see here, taken by my friend Mike’s wife, Jenna Garvin, is us returning dejectedly to get the keys.) (continued in comments)

I grew up in this house with my parents since I was 13. I went to High School North, I went to my senior prom while living here. I got married really young and moved away for a few years, but after we got divorced I moved back with my new, great husband, John, whom I have known since before I met my first husband. When I married John we moved back and we added on to this house for my parents to live in. John and I had just finished the painting and putting the floors down and got our Certificate of Occupancy when Sandy came.
.
When I started hearing about Sandy, I paid attention. I was thinking, ‘This doesn’t sound good.’ At the time my father was 67 years old and still pretty strong. But just before the storm hit, I said to him, ‘Ok Pop, I think you and mom should go.’ I work in healthcare, so I couldn't go. And he said, ‘I’m not leaving. I have never left my home.’ As we are discussing it, I see our neighbors packing up their cars to evacuate. The sky was this steel gray, ominous color. I told him, ‘Pop, all of our neighbors are leaving too. And I am worried about our three fur-babies, Macaroni, Rigatoni, and Alfredo. I know you don’t want to be evacuated, but if you had to be rescued, they will save you first, not the dogs.’ And he said, ‘No one is going to hurt my babies!’ So we packed their cars and they left.
.
I went to work at the nursing home in Whiting the morning before Sandy hit, and I knew I was going to have to stay overnight. So I packed up three days worth of clothing and went to work. My next door neighbors were staying, and promised me they would send texts on how things were going on our street. (continued in comments)

This October 29th marks the 5 year anniversary of hurricane Sandy devastating the Jersey Shore, impacting tens of thousands of homes including my family’s home. This week I want to share about an organization that was started after Sandy hit, called Jersey Shore United. Born out of an urgent need from locals for any help they could get after they had nowhere else to turn, this organization started with a prayer and a determination to get people help, including rolling up their sleeves and doing the work themselves.
.
This week I will have a four-part-series featuring stories of how this organization has helped hundreds of people’s homes, including in my many of my neighbors. This coming Saturday is their 5 year anniversary event, A Day of Hope, which comes full circle for me, as JSU started with a Night of Hope right in my driveway. It is founded by Barry Moll, a man of deep faith and deep love for his neighbors, whether ones on his street, or ones he has never met before living many miles away.
.
There are still hundreds of families without homes at the shore, plus JSU is branching out to help hurricane victims in Texas and Puerto Rico. To find out how you can help, or to find more information about the exciting Day of Hope at the Great Auditorium this Saturday… (Where I also happen to be speaking this Saturday, please click link in bio) (Photo with permission from JSU. Barry Moll is in the blue shirt).

Last week, I felt so bad with the migraines and vertigo, I really wanted to give up. Instead I found 20 workouts 20 minutes long with modifiers and amplifiers.
I got them done. I fell all over the place. I was a hot mess. But you know, I found a new set of great workouts with great trainers.
Hubby did them with me too. We are going to continue doing these because we both like them. Is this something you would like? Comment or message me.

Old me:
I just got my nails done. $40. I got a new outfit because I outgrew the old one. $50. I stopped on the way home and got coffee. $5. I just got a hamburger fries and coke $8. I was on another diet last week. I can't afford healthy food. I only had 800 calories a day. Why didn't it work?
New me:
I pack a healthy lunch and snacks. Only cost me $7.00 I just got done my 30 min workout that cost .30 cents and just finished my $4.00 shake. I learned how to eat to fuel my body. My clothes are loose so I fit in my skinny jeans.

Old me:
I had such a great time last night drinking white Russians. I skipped dinner. On the way home I grabbed a pint of ice cream and Doritos and cheese dip. I ate the whole thing. I am staying in bed today. I feel bad missing such a nice sunny day. Why am I so sick?

New me:
I just ran with the kids and this morning I took a bike ride this morning. It was really nice seeing the sunrise. How beautiful. Last night I walked the dog and saw a beautiful sunset. I feel great since I got 8 hrs sleep last night.
Old me:
I am so fat sick and tired and I don't know why. Why? Why? Why?

New me:
I feel great and I am looking for people who want to feel better and who are looking for tips on what they I learned on what makes me feel better.
The old me:
I just got back from the dr. I was diagnosed with hypothyroid, fibromyalgia, Epstein Barre, high cholesterol, high liver count, Irritable bowel syndrome and I had pre cancer cells in my female parts. I was 20 lbs overweight. I am too young for all this. How did this happen.

New me:
It took me years to find a perfect system that not only got me in shape but I reduced my cholesterol meds , my liver is functioning properly, I have fewer flair ups, I am regular, my dr is happy and says my weight is healthy. I have more energy, I fit in my clothes better and I feel wonderful.
Can you relate to any of this? Are you looking to feel better? Are you tired of being sick and tired? Do you want to learn more on how to feel better? Comment yes or message me.

It was really nice seeing the sunrise. How beautiful. Last night I walked the dog and saw a beautiful sunset. I feel great since I got 8 hrs sleep last night. Old me: I am so fat sick and tired and I don't know why. Why? Why? Why? New me: I feel great and I am looking for people who want to feel better and who are looking for tips on what they I learned on what makes me feel better. The old me: I just got back from the dr. I was diagnosed with hypothyroid, fibromyalgia, Epstein Barre, high cholesterol, high liver count, Irritable bowel syndrome and I had pre cancer cells in my female parts. I was 20 lbs overweight. I am too young for all this. How did this happen. New me: It took me years to find a perfect system that not only got me in shape but I reduced my cholesterol meds , my liver is functioning properly, I have fewer flair ups, I am regular, my dr is happy and says my weight is healthy. I have more energy, I fit in my clothes better and I feel wonderful. Can you relate to any of this? Are you looking to feel better? Are you tired of being sick and tired? Do you want to learn more on how to feel better? Comment yes or message me.
