A big thank you to the exceptional @angelacooking who got to grips with our #surplusfood (onions and all) to cook our guests a delicious pasta dish and some succulent chicken mains at #refettoriofelix yesterday #lunch @londonfoodmonth @thefelixproject pic @redphotographic
Too much food waste despite too many people going hungry are dilemmas faced by many countries. But a UK-based nonprofit – with the help of General Mills UK – is doing its best to solve both issues.
In the past year, FareShare – an organization that rescues edible food from companies and grocers and distributes it to charities – has received 31 tons of surplus food from General Mills UK.
Repost from @planzheroes 📷 // Gorgeous surplus veg box from our #surplusfood collection @boroughmarket today!
Big thanks to all the traders who regularly donate their surplus food, our local charities feeding people in need, and our hero volunteers who run these collections.
You're all our heroes.

Did you know that there are 700 cheeses in Britain? #Cheddar is the most popular one! During the war, the "cheese of England" was easy to transport and could last a long time. Nowadays, there are so many cheese varieties to taste! Bon appetit #cheese .
Thank you @foodassembly @katie_roche for the info!
Every Wednesday, we receive surplus food donations from @faresharesussex the UK's largest charity fighting hunger and food waste. Fareshare save good food from going to waste and redistribute it to frontline charities, now including The Merstham Mix! A very big THANK YOU to the wonderful FareShare team, who donations help to create our lunchtime hot meals. 😊
today i went to the @realjunkfoodshf to find out a bit more about food waste and the amazing things they're doing to help change this problem in sheffield. i was shocked by the immense amounts that go to waste each and every day - not just fresh produce that are approaching their use-by dates, or bits of wonky veg, but shelf foods like pasta and tinned foods that can last for years.
it is appalling to think that so much perfectly edible food is being thrown away whilst others are going hungry. not to mention the amount of water, land, energy, manpower put into growing / producing these?
the broken system of the food industry is a tricky one to tackle, but we can all start helping reduce food waste on an individual level by: 🌱 only buying what you need
🌱 realising that foods past their use-by dates are more often than not, still okay! (they're there mainly for companies to protect themselves)
🌱 coming to terms that wonky veg just look a bit funky on the outside, but probs taste just as good anyway!
🌱 compost any leftover bits and bobs to give back to our earth 🌏
589,000 people in metro Detroit face hunger, including the Fisher family.
Two years ago, Rich Fisher went to bed with a headache and woke up later in the throes of a major stroke. While still in the hospital, his company went out of business his family was left with no insurance.
As if that weren’t enough, in September the Fisher family’s house burnt down, destroying everything they owned. “Sometimes it feels like we have a black cloud over us. We are trying to think of a new beginning, but with the holidays coming it’s kind of hard,” he said. “Forgotten Harvest has been a savior.” From Forgotten Harvest and the Fishers, thank you for making the commitment to end food insecurity and waste and metro Detroit. Every conversation, donation, and volunteer gets us one step closer.
Right now, your gift is doubled, thanks to a matching grant provided by community members Harold and Kay. That means $10 provides eighty meals! You can donate at our website. Link in bio. .
Bananas too ripe to sell, donated by @tedsveg. #outofdate condensed milk and digestive biscuits rescued by Daniel from work. Chocolate sprinkles from blitzed broken Easter eggs from @faresharelondon. All we had to buy was double cream and we made 60 portions of this delicious Banoffee Pie for next to nothing from #surplusfood for our #supperclubs last week.
Do you throw away pumpkin skin often? Sometimes veggie skin is not always that tasty though, we still can try giving it creative values. This spicy pumpkin soft cookie is decorated on pumpkin skin strips so that we could have finer “cookie flesh”. Since the pumpkin were set aside because it was too old, we wouldn’t like to eat the skin! The sugar are also organic raw coconut sugar, which is super great and healthy and almost expired. Even it’s almost expired, it’s still much healthier and tastier than fresh caster sugar ;) #zerowaste#surplusfood#savefood#pumpkincookies#raworganiccoconutsugar#cocofresco#pickfoodup
Did you know you can come and volunteer at FareShare London on Saturdays? Live from the warehouse, here are our amazing weekend early birds who woke up early to catch the worm/save tonnes of food from going to waste 💪🍏🐛 want to help, too? #linkinbio
Root veg soup from last week’s #lsesunday ! Warm and filling on a cold day
What an amazing couple of days it's been with @surplustosupper. The market was a massive success, we've made a profit on our first official outing, we have the start of our range of products and we've made some money for the Community Food Bank. Hopefully this is the start of some really big things that can do a lot of good! #surplustosupper#surplusfood#foodwaste#foodpoverty#bridgingthegap#foodies#foodie
Market prep is well and truly underway. Our preserved lemons, apple membrillo and chutneys are all made from perfectly imperfect fruit.
Find us at Newcastle Castle this Saturday 10-4pm alongside loads more crafty foodie folk ❄️💜
Massive thanks to @reedbusinessinformation for volunteering their time to help deliver food to our charities and community groups! Smiles all round! 😁
