Where else on the plantation did I visited? A marsh area. Instead of a tour I wanted to simply take my time and enjoy the place. The walkways and bridges reminded me of an area in the video game Myst at a place called Channelwood Age. Towering trees. Maze-like walkways. Only thing missing are the interconnected treehouses and a windmill. 📸🍃
Thanks @peter_houlihan for introducing us to this FL Panther from Fakahatchee! #tagustuesday#floridawildlifecorridor#ConnectProtectRestore#Repost @peter_houlihan
・・・Face to face with an #endangered#Florida#panther . One of less than 200 individuals of these elusive #bigcats in the #wild , the vast forests of #Fakahatchee State Park, nearby federal parks, and privately managed corridors, collectively form an important stronghold for the population. Not believing my eyes when I saw a long tan tail disappear into the vegetation, I abandoned everything I was doing in the #swamp , along with all my gear, lost a boot, threw a lens somewhere without looking, and took off after what I hoped was a panther. Suddenly, there she was, stopped before me, peering through the understory just feet away. My heart raced. I raised my camera slowly, and captured her gaze. We shared several #intimate minutes together curiously following each other around- A moment I will never forget. My #first panther.
Now, we know we’re a little geeky, but after spending decades learning the ins and outs of telecommunications and electronics industry, we knew the market needed a more simple, affordable and straightforward way to shop for tech accessories—and we wanted customers to feel like they were purchasing from a family friend that genuinely cared. That's the foundation of this company. --

I’ve got to share this story. It was many years ago but was an epic mini-adventure. One where you declare “it doesn’t get any better than this.” One of my best friends and I decided to day canoe the Apalachicola River. This was before gps and we really didn’t have any maps. A friend dropped us off early that morning and said ‘just paddle downriver’, ‘you can’t miss the takeout’. Well about 4 hours into the trip, a major thunderstorm descended upon us with lightening, wind, and rain. We were in an old aluminum canoe in the middle of swampy shores. No place to really shelter. We paddled close to shore only to discover very large wasp nests hanging from the tree branched. The first one we encountered was when the wind blew us under one with my face about 6” from the nest. The only thing that saved me was the wind was blowing so hard that the wasps were hanging on for dear life themselves. After surviving the storm, the rain settled in for the day. As we paddled downriver, suddenly we came to a fork in the waterway. We didn’t know which way so we just took what appeared to be the larger of the two. Remember, this predates gps and cell phones. We paddled further and encountered another fork, then another and another until we were on a small creek where we saw no evidence of human existence. It was starting to get dark and we had no overnight gear and we were in the middle of swampy terrain. The thought of spending the night out with wasps, mosquitoes, snakes, and alligators was not comforting. Finally, we paddled back up stream until we saw a small cabin on the side of the creek. We hiked out until we found someone that would let us use their phone and called our friend. Of course, he knew right where we were. When he picked us up he said ‘if you had kept paddling you would have seen the takeout’. Neither of us believed him since we had been on a small stream barely deep enough to float the canoe with much overhanging vegetation. Ugh. Such fun. I thought my friend had an uncanny resemblance to Castro. Lol. #canoeing#apalatchicolariver#adventure#funny#friends#apalatchicola#swamp
