So tonight after a long day of training I had a full blown just shy of a sold out TRX class. And afterwards a regular of mine, young guy late 20's cute grungy yet prep school polishing white early 30's NYC to LA in entertainment businesses, doing well for himself comes up after class and this is the dialogue:
Client: So I made it through yet another Tonni TRX without vomiting.
ME: I know! I'm so effing happy you are getting so strong! I knew you could and would.
Client: Yeah you called it. So you know how I asked you about personal training and you told me to really think about it and what I want to do with not just my body but my life?
Me: Of course I remember so whatcha got? Whatcha comeback with?
Client: Well I really thought about it and well the truth is ever since I moved from New York and had to leave my trainer in New York that I told you about it's taken me years to find a trainer like her and that's you and like you say #truthintraining the answer is I just really need strong black women in my life to whip me into shape.
Me: ....(insert dramatic pause cuz I wanted to make sure my brain was processing what he said correctly after a long 15 hour day that was still going)...Well here's my card. Let's set something up and let's effing roll!
I couldn't make this $h!+ up even if I tried. I love it! "He just always needs a strong black women to whip him into shape." #jesustakethewheel because I'm falling out 🤣😂😭🤣Be on the lookout for my next class folks...S&M. I mean #sorryboutit ... I just can't help myself! 😂🤣😂 😭🤣
Tonight's workout was HARD, physically and mentally. I have been working my booty off in physical therapy trying to strengthen my body and correct my herniated disk. Tonight I fell behind and felt like a poor leader. My injury got in the way of me doing every rep with my girls and it was defeating to know that despite my progress, I still have a long way to go. The article @_alice_inchaarg had us read this week as SGCs really resonated with me tonight. It states that good leaders are not generic, they are not well rounded. They are good because they listen and respond to their team, they know what their individual strengths and weaknesses are, and they always give it their all. Tonight I listened to my body and did what I could. Tonight I used my voice to motivate the girls in our SG to keep going, even when I couldn't. Tonight I reconciled with that fact that I don't have to be perfect to set a good example. One of my favorite sayings rings true tonight, "I cannot control what has happened in my past, but I can control how I respond to it". I'm thankful, as always, to my friends and co-leaders in OSU Chaarg for inspiring me to always try to be a better version of my self ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
