“In attempting to construct . . . machines [that think] we should not be irreverently usurping [God’s] power of creating souls, any more than we are in the procreation of children. Rather, we are, in either case, instruments of His will providing mansions for the souls that He creates.” ~ Alan Turing, 1950 - Making progress at a secret research facility on Psytomaton powered machines with anthropomorphic features. #rpg#tabletoprpg#dieselpunk not #dnd not #pathfinder 1950’s #roleplayinggame#roleplayinggames
I won this bad ass, solid steel twenty-sider at @portconmaine a few years ago that weighs hefty *five ounces*. I could literally chuck this monster at someone and knock them out with a "critical hit"! Ironically, I can't really use the thing to game with… it dents tables when rolled, knocks over drinks, and could break a toe if it fell to the floor. :-/ #DungeonsAndDragons#DnD#Dice#D20#PortConMaine#TabletopRPG

thought I’d do a little series of character aesthetic edits for each of my OCs from my home brew dnd! The first up is my human gunner Mai ~
Mai is 34, chaotic neutral, wields two guns (the first, a revolver by the name of Miss Maria, the second, a shotgun by the name of Big Bessie) and has impeccable taste in clothes. Mai was raised by a human couple for most of her life, but when she found out she’d been adopted she felt lost, betrayed by her parents, and like she didn’t know who she was anymore. she set out from home at 16 and never looked back. mai picks up work all over, constantly moving around, never staying too long in one place. the idea of having strong emotional connections scares her, in case they too keep things from her she needs to know. her romantic relationships are flings, and her platonic relationships are near-nonexistent. if you were ever to seek her out, looking for work, she can always be found in a tavern, drinking water, never booze, with her distinctive red hawk by the name of Meeha perched on her shoulder. -
to sum Mai up in one sentence? shoot first, ask questions later.
feed back on these edits would be much appreciated! let me know: have you guys made any similar characters in the past? or is there something special you like about her design?

The Stormbot is a magical construct that stands 12 feet high, wields a mighty great sword and is able to control lightning. Some say that the Stormbot was once created by one mighty wizard to be his guardian and servant. But at some point the construct developed consciousness and murdered his master. After that he went on a violent rampage destroying villages and towns, but disappeared after 7 days and 7 nights of terror. They say the Stormbot still wanders the desolate plains of Shem, looking for more victims. 💀⚔️ #wizardsguidetodungeons

X4 Master of the Desert Nomads was a bit of something new at the time. Though it still falls squarely into the Expert-level hex-crawl paradigm, it introduced some intriguing elements. Firstly, the design was geared towards DM construction... encounters were tied to general areas, not specific locations, and could be utilized in whatever order was deemed appropriate. It also featured a very basic mass combat system, necessary to resolve one of the key encounters. This was a full year before either War Machine of Battlesystem saw publication. Lastly, it was the first BECMI adventure strictly designed as a two-parter... it was just the prelude to X5 Temple of Death. If that's not good enough for you I guess I could also mention that they totally ripped of Dark Crystal as well. #dungeonsanddragons#advanceddungeonsanddragons#adnd#dnd#dandd#becmi#rpg#tabletoprpg#roleplayinggame#darkcrystal
Had a bit of a hectic weekend so I only had time for some lean and mean posts for this week, focusing on box art from Grenadier Models’ fantasy miniatures. ¶ I never got into painting metal miniatures back in the day, partly due to lack of patience, but probably mostly due to the fact that it was an expensive hobby. I kind of like them unpainted, too. I accumulated a handful of mostly Grenadier minis in the early 90s, though I think I preferred the look of Ral Partha’s products more. It was a matter of availability though – the Walden Books in the mall had Grenadier, so Grenadier it was. Still, my group never used minis much until 3E and 4E made it a painful necessity. I have an awful lot of the pre-painted plastic Wizards of the Coast miniatures, but that is probably a tale of woe for another time. ¶ This box is from 1981, during the brief period that Grenadier held a license from TSR to produce official Dungeons & Dragons miniatures. I got this, and about six other boxes of miniatures from a fellow who was moving cross-country and didn’t want to lug about 10 pounds of lead with him. I’ve no idea what figures go with what box, if any, but that is immaterial (I’ll share some of the cooler ones at a later date). The real prize is the box art. I mean, just look at it. It is glorious. ¶ The rest of the week, I’ll be sharing some of the other miniature box covers, but with minimal commentary. Back to normal next week. In the meantime, think about what I should tackle next week. Call of Cthulhu? Weird stuff? D&D modules? Dragon Magazines? Al Qadim? Pick Your Path books? TORG? RIFTS? MERP? GURPS? Talislanta? Sci Fi games? Board games? RuneQuest? Star Wars? A random mix of stuff? Sometimes I look at the shelves and love it all so much I have no idea what to do next. You tell me! ¶ #DnD#DungeonsAndDragons#ADnD#DandD#AdvancedDungeonsAndDragons#TSR#RPG#TabletopRPG#roleplayinggame#roleplayinggames#miniatures#Grenadier#GrenadierModels#DungeonExplorers#1981
