Anyone else getting the travel bug? If you could go anywhere, where would you go? We've been wanting to do an African trip to Egypt, Tanzania, and S. Africa.

Had the chance to see our brother @joekenneth_ out here on the west coast this past weekend! His book "Days After Your Departure" is powerful and explores his journey at a monumental time in his life. Find the link in his bio to learn more and support!

The idea behind this project came from feelings that we all have. At times we are our own best friend and at other times we can be our own worst enemy. We all have different voices inside of us that are either positive or negative. What drives those voices is the idea you have formed of who you should be against the reality of who you actually are. Through pose and style this shoot looked to capture this relationship and convey its complexity. View full project on our @vsco (Link in bio).

TH: What motivates or drives you in regards to your passions?

Rog: It's pretty tough for me because I haven't been doing this for a long time and it's not something I started doing on purpose. It was kind of an "accidental passion" and so I'm still learning. So the learning and the discovery is what drives me - as I do the work and meet people, there's so much uncovering that drives me to uncover more and learn more. Also - the purpose. I never saw photography as something that I can put all of who I am into, it was just like "oh this is cool". But now I can take something that I feel or an idea that I have and funnel them into this thing.

[COMMON THREAD] - TH: What is your cultural background and how does that inspire/influence your work?

Bee: My family is from Kenya, my mother has her ancestral village there close to Kisumu near Lake Victoria and my father is Indian from Kenya. A big part of their influence on me has just been documenting the family, my father has so many images of his grandparents and his great-grandparents in India and in Kenya. I just love having that connection to that history and being able to see those things and I think its important for other people to have that for their families too. Thats part of what I like to provide for other people and do with them. Sort of getting to know them, their families and document those things.

We had the chance to catch up with Rog and Bee Walker of @papermonday while on our recent trip to NY. We've looked up to these two as photographers and artists for some time so we were grateful to spend some time with them in their Bronx studio. We talked everything from family to travel schedule, and learned about what they've been up to recently. Looking forward to sharing more from our time with them in the coming days.

What compels you to create? When we take photos we find something that is interesting to us and we capture it. It's the search for the most intriguing part of a subject that comes to tell a story. And what we search for in our creation helps us discover more about ourselves.

Pressure is a privilege because it means there is something expected of you. If you are experiencing some sort of pressure, from clients, suppliers, employees, your employer, family, friends, your spouse, children, neighbours, teachers, mentors, coaches, or from anyone, there is a high likelihood it is because there is an expectation of you to ‘perform’ – to take some kind of action producing an anticipated outcome.

A scenario where you are free from any and all pressure will probably not enable you to produce your greatest results. Likewise, a scenario where you are overwhelmed by a crushing degree of pressure will not enable you to be your best. Each of us has a different capacity for handling pressure so we are all motivated by differing degrees of it. We all share one reality though; there is a certain degree of pressure that does cause us to perform at a higher level than if we were left to our own devices.

Regardless of who we are and what we do, let’s shift our perspective on pressure from being something from which we want to be freed, to a gift enabling us to be better. Pressure is an indication we have others depending on us to be the best we can be. And, they are doing so because we have previously proven we have what it takes.

I finally picked up my film camera a few months ago and am absolutely loving the experience. I tend to have a "trigger-finger" when shooting w/digital cameras, so switching to film has taught me a lot about patience. Appreciating the moment for what it is and letting the journey itself be my guiding light. ~ @u_issa

What we create is an extension of ourselves. Realizing that we have the power to author the narrative of our lives is both empowering and scary. It's empowering because if we employ self-awareness, we can take control of our narrative and write our story no matter our circumstances. It can also be a scary thing because for the first time we will have to take responsibility because the path is not laid out for us, we are creating it for ourselves. This is a discipline that we struggle with everyday. With so many pressures in life it can be easy to get distracted from the fact that we're our most powerful ally and enemy. At the end of the day we are the only ones that can take control and create the life we want.

How do I guess at the future? The secret here is in the present. If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And, if you improve upon the present, what comes later will also be better. Forget about the future. Each day, in itself, brings with it an eternity. — The Alchemist by @paulocoelho

"Great achievements can't wait for perfect conditions." - Heard this quote a few days ago and I immediately thought of people around me who are hustling to make their dreams come true. Working two jobs and then going home to focus on their passions, or living in the garage and putting in work 18 hours a day. It reminds me to keep moving forward, no matter what life throws my way. The journey is what makes everything worth it, so I'm just doing my best to trust my gut and embrace the uncertainty.

Global Community // I met Esteban at his studio in Mexico City. The beauty of @instagram is that it allows you to connect with like-minded individuals from around the world. Although I never met him before, he showed me what he has been working on with his latest collection for @readytodie . Esteban created this brand out of a love for streetwear and the desire to have the perspective of Mexican fashion design on the worlds biggest stages. We spoke a little about the youth culture scene in Mexico City and the contrast that the city presents in terms of how many diverse narratives are present all at once. Please check him out and look out for more from him in the near future! #tailoredheritage

Visited the historic Azteca Stadium for a tour and the U.S. vs. Mexico game that ended in a 1-1 draw. The craziest thing for me was the crowds energy and love for their country. Even though the U.S. is considered Mexicos biggest rival in soccer, every Mexico fan I interacted with approached me with respect and a great curiosity about who I was and how much I was enjoying my trip. #tailoredheritage

Doug Aitken // "Mirage presents a continually changing encounter in which subject and object, inside and outside are in constant flux. The ranch-style structure suggests a latter-day architectural version of manifest destiny, a primary structure rendered by the artist without function service or texture. With every available surface clad in mirror it both absorbs and reflects the landscape around in such ways that the exterior will seemingly disappear just as the interior draws the viewer into a never-ending kaleidoscope of light and reflection" #tailoredheritage
