Gonna be shouting out a lot to Marrow over the next couple months!! I'm excited to announce that Marrow is reopening this year and we're looking for people in the community to partner with for support, volunteering, teaching, donations, teen membership outreach and more. We moved into a new space with some offices and we're looking for interested parties who need an incubation space for their new business or art studio. Joy Ezechikamnayo emerges first Abia Female Governor.
14 year old Miss Joy Ezechikamnayo will be sworn in today as the first Female Governor of Abia State. She is the Senior prefect of Intellectual Giant Christian Academy, Umuahia.
She is the first to become a one day Governor in this maiden edition.
The process was started by the Special Adviser to the Governor on teenage matters, Mrs Chinemenma Umeseaka who collaborated with the Secondary Education Management Board.
Letters were sent to public and private schools in Abia State to present 3 of their best students to write an essay on the topic "If you become Governor of Abia State for a Day, what would you achieve?". Over 200 schools from Aba , Umuahia and Ohafia zone sent in their essays. Each zone did a written test for all the students and selected those that got at least 6 questions from the 10 questions given to them.
The selected ones did oral test by pitching their ideas to the already submitted written essay. To make the process more transparent, Representative Teachers from different schools form part of the Judges.
38 students came for the grand battle while 20 amongst the 38 emerged winners.
The best will be sworn in as the one day Governor whilst the remaining will form members of her cabinet.
Part 3/3 What if a person does not/cannot give consent?
Above all, if your partner ever says no during sex or asks you to stop, you must stop immediately. Saying no should never be treated as a game or as a signal that someone is "playing hard to get." Simply put, "no" means "no" in any sexual encounter.
🤷🏻♀️ • Certain circumstances make it impossible for a person to legally give consent. These circumstances usually involve cases in which a person is not mentally or physically capable of choosing whether to engage in sexual behavior.
🙅🏼♂️ • For instance, if someone is drunk or high on drugs, then that person cannot give consent. This means that even if someone seems eager to engage in sexual behavior, doing so can legally be considered sexual assault or rape if he or she is intoxicated. 🍺💊 • Age can also determine whether a person can legally consent to certain sexual behaviors, such as intercourse, oral sex, or anal sex. In Australia, the legal age at which a person can give consent is 16, 17 if you're in SA or TAS. 🙅🏻 • Having sex with someone under the age of consent is legally considered a crime called statutory rape, even if the person under the age of consent says that she or he wanted the sexual behavior to take place.
• At 14 I didn't know what consent was. Frankly, at 35 I didn't completely comprehend it either.
For years, the story I've shared about my first-time was one of "...that's just what happened." Now I realise it was statutory rape and sexual assault.
I am shocked and sadden since speaking up how many others have stories very similar to mine. And I hope this post is a way for others to talk about the topic of consent.
Part 2/3 How do you determine consent?
To determine if someone is giving consent, you must be able to answer two questions:
1. Does the person want to give consent?
2. Is the person capable of giving consent?
The easiest way to determine if a person wants to give consent is simply to ask. This eliminates the uncertainty of guessing and trying to interpret signals.
Someone putting his or her hand on your hand might be a way of indicating that she or he likes what you're doing or a way of indicating that she or he would like you to stop.
The only way to be sure is to ask.
A person may also give consent non-verbally by actively engaging in the sexual act. Clearly, this implied consent is more difficult to gauge, and if your partner seems to become more hesitant or uncomfortable, you should stop. Reassure your partner that you don't want to do anything she or he doesn't also want to do, and ask him or her what's wrong.
😂 this picture always makes me laugh. No this is not my @idriselba look. This is my "I'm tired from a long day of work and too lazy to take off my work clothes so I just laid on the couch look." ================
