#gm to all from @theparkchesterproject #theparkchesterproject featuring the work of #JosephKiselewski in the #parkchester area of the #bronx . "Man with bullhorn" 📸 *This one sculpture always confuses me. Most of the sculptures have clear professions or ethnicities. This guy is just shouting with his hand up holding a bullhorn... I believe he is in a "labor union". But, I'm currently doing research to confirm. The clothing is always a good indicator but he's dressed very nondescript.
LMK your guesses below 🤔 I'll look into all of them I promise!
There are a few more brightly colored terra cotta sculptures on the back of @marshalls in parkchester and I'll be posting them for the rest of this week :) there are two styles of rendering and I believe one must be #JosephKiselewski while the other were parts of #FederalSeabordTerraCottaCorporation 's commission/design. I requested #josephkiselewski 's papers from the @smithsonian education dept to see if he has clear notes on his exact #sculptures in the area. My guess is smaller works like "puffin" "Depressed mermaid" and accent ornament tiles are the work of "FederalSeabordTerraCottaCorporation" I was able to locate a book of their work and those pieces match their "style" while sculptures like "hula" and the others located on the back of the theater look similar to #josephkiselewski 's medals 🥇 for ww2. But, let's see research might prove me wrong on who did what. artists often have several styles look at Picasso 's portfolio of work alone.
Terracotta tiles on the archway pillars in Leeds Central Library. I've always loved the glazed tiles in the cafe and hallways of the building but last week I spotted these treasures on the first floor of the library area ( now designated the art library)
about an hour away from xian is the '8th wonder of the world'. the terracotta army discovery was one of the greatest in the 20th century, it's staggering to process that around 8000 warriors were found along with 100s of horses and chariots. the sheer detail that has gone into each monument makes the discovery even more epic. but what really gets me is the following: all this was done not for some external benefit, the sculptors did not do this for recognition or fame, afterall their artwork and hardwork was buried and never to be seen again #china#xian#terracotta#army#warriors#travel#photography
