THIS SUNDAY -- hittin at @dcbkboston in the South End with The Collective (not bgv!), 7-11! Come thorough, sit in, grab a drink! 📸// the amazing @kayablaze .
As shoulders were super warm after today's session, I thought I'd get in some headstand and handstand practice! 🤸♀️🤸♀️
Considering I haven't practised these for a few weeks (bad I know, I told myself I'd practice everyday!!🤔) I'm really chuffed with this attempt! Only needing the wall when I try to extend my legs up and for adjustments when trying to set myself again!
I don't know what it is about being upside down but it's like the best feeling ever 😂😂
Also... this is my public announcement that I'm going to keep practicing these every week! (Guys keep me accountable pls🙄)
Double also... listen out for my (I think they're funny) sound effects! 😂😂😂
Tickets are still on sale for this killer event! Come during the day to hear some great local and regional bands then stick around for the indoor concert featuring @__thecollective and Iron Bell Music. Gonna be a fun one! #thecollective#ironbellmusic#jesusmusic
Continuing with the thoracic (T) spine, lets have a look at the vertebrae themselves ☝️
There are four main features that distinguish these from other vertebrae:
✔ The vertebral body is heart shaped ❤
✔ There are demi-facets on either side of each vertebral body. These join with the heads of the ribs
✔ There are costal facets on the transverse processes. These join with the tubercles (knobly bit!!) of the ribs. These are only present on T1-T10
✔ The spinous processes are long and slanted downwards. This is added protection for the spinal cord
There are two types of joints seen throughout the vertebral column:
✔ Between vertebral bodies
✔ Between vertebral arches
But, there are also two types of joints specific to the T-spine (swipe left):
✔ Costovertebral joint - where the head of the rib joins with 1. Superior costal facet of that vertebrae, 2. Inferior costal facet of above vertebrae, 3. Intervertebral disc separating the two vertebrae
✔ Costotransverse joint - where the transverse processes of the T vertebrae and the tubercle of the adjacent rib
Lastly we're going to have a look at movement (swipe left again!) We said in our last post that the T-spine is primarily built for stability, however it does contribute to movement of the thorax... with normal ranges of motion noted below 👇
✔ Extension - 0-45°
✔ Flexion - 0-50°
✔ Lateral flexion - 0-40°
✔ Rotation - 0-30°
Phewww, a lot to take it 💭 but for the rest of the week we're going to be looking at some of our fav T-spine mobility exercises that you can all try 👍
The Collective is a collection of churches in our parish that come together throughout the year and worship and hang out together! If you go to Facebook, Twitter, and here on Instagram and like their page then you can see when upcoming events are! @thecollectivefranklinparish #fbcwisner#thecollective#weloveJesus
We are ratcheting into the pointy end of Eclipsia as tensions rise across the board. It may be inbuilt for us to be wary of who or what we don't know. Still we have to be taught to turn that natural trepidation into hatred instead of curiousity. We have to be shown how to convert it into bloody murder. And that has to be accepted or condoned, excused or ignored for it to continue. The many bad examples that precede us have never made it right.
It is easy to look at the events of the past few weeks and just be frozen: horrified at how we stubbornly refuse to learn and grow as a species, terrified for our children. Here we each sit self interested, mired in our collective shame and our privilege, witnessing the horrible weight of our euphemistic histories when the curtain is truly pulled back, raging wrongfooted while pointing the finger at anyone else.
But what are we changing? Who are we helping? Where do we start?
Welcome to the shadow: yours, ours, theirs. The upcoming solar eclipse will literally hurl us all into the dark as the moon blocks out the sun, our source of light and life. Boobs deep in our collective and individual darknesses, we are being forced to inhabit our own wounds. As individuals. In our communities and societies. As humans. The hidden gift of a shadow well excavated is when it is used to help others, make change, model and embody new and inclusive ways of seeing and being in the world.
It is easy to feel powerless or a long way away. It is disgustingly safer to do nothing. But each of us can look about us and find a place to start being the change close to home. Just start.
Thank you to those whose words have educated or elevated, challenged or changed me these past few days. @brenebrown explained privilege and the power of story like no other @wildmysticwoman for throwing down the gauntlet @yvetteluciano for bringing it home. It is shifting how I think, what I say and that translates into changing what I do and what I offer, in the hope of impacting a mind, a life, a place for the better. Time now, if not sooner, for us all to shapeshift & elevate, one tiny positive step at a time. The alternative is to remain part of the problem.
