Greetings, today's #gameoftheday goes to Scarface: The World Is Yours for the PlayStation 2 and it was also made for the original Xbox. Released in 2006, the game is an open world action shooter and a quasi pseudo-sequel to the 1983 Scarface film starring Al Pacino. For those who've seen the movie know how the movie ends but for those who don't I'm gonna spoil the end for you.... Tony Montana dies when his mansion is under attack by a Colombian cartel. However, in the game, Tony survives the raid and is forced into exile as his mansion has been seized by police. The game cuts to three months later and Tony must rebuild his empire as all his rivals have moved in on Tony's turf. The game then takes an open world approach similar to Grand Theft Auto in that you can commandeer vehicles, explore an entire open world and trigger missions at your leisure all with a kick ass 80s soundtrack. The objective is to regain Tony's lost territories which you do by expanding your drug empire. You buy businesses that act as fronts, you secure a supplier based on leads from an associate, then you must seize a warehouse that serves the area in order to unlock the big suppliers. As all this is going on Tony is trying to exact revenge on Alejandro Sosa, the Colombian drug kingpin Tony was partnered with in the film who attacked Tony's mansion. I actually really enjoy this one, yes it borrows heavily from the Grand Theft Auto franchise, but then again, GTA: Vice City borrowed its tone and setting from Scarface, so it all came full circle. Check this one out if you can, it's one of the few GTA style open worlds that actually works and offers a unique take on the genre.
