This word keeps popping up these past few weeks and I can't help but realize my own discontentment. I think we can all say we've been there. We want what we don't have, we compare ourselves to others and we outright find dissatisfaction in everything.
In response, we often complain, fill our minds with jealousies and wants. We pursue things that don't truly fufill us, like money, possessions and even relationships. These things aren't necessarily bad, but shouldn't be the reason for our being. The only place where we can truly find fufillment and contentment is in Christ. It's found in knowing, that despite circumstances, adversities and whatever's going on in our life, believing in and experiencing Christ's sufficiency is enough. It gives the restless heart peace in knowing God carries out His good promises 🌴 Romans 12:2
Even though it's an oldie, it's definitely a goodie. So to start off I wanna talk about Willow Aster's In the Fields. This story was profound and incredibly beautiful. I cry each time I read the review, I kid you not. That is how freaking awesomepictastic this story is.
When love and hate collides and creates 10 million emotions in my heart
My friends were talking about this book and so I eagerly ventured ahead and promptly lost my heart to Willow Aster. To say this story burrowed deep and captured my soul, would be an understatement. If you’re looking for a beautifully written story about race and what it is like to fall for someone who isn’t your own skin color then, In The Fields is just the story for you. This story is just too epic for words, it is one of my favorite reads of all time, like everr. Just writing this review made me weepy, Willow Aster has managed to dig deep and made me feel. This book was #thefeels . Caroline and Isaiah has left their footprints forever circling in my heart and I will always cherish their story.
Caro is a teenaged girl, not yet fifteen, yet she leads a very lonely life. Surprising? Not so, when her parents are horrible to say the least, they leave her home alone while they are doing their own things. I just wanted to throat punch them so hard whenever Caro was left struggling with life. But even in her isolation, she had one person she could count on, Isaiah, her best friend, her true love. *commence swooning* Isaiah made me feel all gooey from the moment I met him. His behavior, his feelings, his words were all just perfect. He loved his girl. His simple hope for a better future where they were free to express their love was my ultimate downfall and yes I was falling in love with another fictional character. I wanted this beautiful boy to love this equally beautiful girl and I was rooting for their HEA. Someday! BUT…
A couple of hours ago, I felt very blessed to have my first Omakase Sushi experience. Something i have been looking forward to since watching a documentary called “Jiro Dreams of Sushi” years ago. For those who dont know what Omakase is. It is when you put your full trust in the chef to serve you what he deems fit or best. It truly is sort of an artistic performance. I was the first customer of the day and only because of that was I allowed in, because you would normally need a reservation which starts at 12, i was there at 11:45. As they had just opened, i walked in, the chef was still mopping the floor and told me to sit in the corner. “You have time?” He said. I nodded. Without me asking. The chef told me that he and his wife have been operating this restaurant for 36 years and it is the reason for their happy marriage. No one else but the two of them for 36 years. As he continued to give me marriage advice, and me being alone with this mom and pop in their shop, i couldnt help but feel like his son and give him my full trust in his advice. As you should oblige to the chef during an Omakase course (Lol) After his fatherly advice he started prepping the fish with his precise and masterful skills while at the same time telling me “do not post on youtube or facebook, many foreigners will come” i asked if i could just take a few pictures and videos. He said yes but do not mention his name. A very funny old man. He then said “okay after picture eat everything right away, no allergy right?”. I again nodded. Now nervous cause he strictly demanded i eat everything instantly. As youll see in one of the videos. And it was pretty much quiet after that. My dad for the day was becoming very strict. And it only increased my respect for him and the art form.
I was not able to take photos of every piece of sushi. And he was not able to tell all the names. But i felt a great connection during and after there meal nga gamay nalanh kuwang and i was gonna jump over the counter and hug him. This was truly an experience i will never forget and i hope i can come back someday like the prodigal son. #tokyo#mylongestpost#causeof#thefeels
