Tomorrow morning this beautiful white oak in our front yard will be cut down. Like most things in our life, my husband and I are a bit emotional about it! So funny, right?! It's a tree! But hanging that tire swing after the trauma of our last house experience really made it feel like home. The girls have always had a tire swing, and we have spent so many evenings out there pushing them on it. But the truth is the tree will fall one day, sooner than later and in the direction of our house. So it has to go. We will miss it. But we will use its wood to keep us warm this winter. And, we will find another home for the tire swing. And, I'm sure another tree will grow just as tall some day. #hawriverhomestead#whiteoak#oaktrees
Sunny Saturday in Bali ☀️ and the sage looks like don’t mind it 🍃. Sage is one of the lesser known herbs in Indonesia. I have the curiosity to grow them and I never try to use it in my cooking. How do you like to use your sage?
✔️I've grown this thyme from seeds, it's slow but fairly easy. It was indoor, then outdoor and back indoor again, it seems to adapt well. The sage was also adapting until I watered this growbag with Epsom salt. I don't know why but sage is the only one that doesn't like Epsom salt, wether at the roots or when leaf spayed. So don't do the same mistake if you are growing sage at home as well! 🌿🌷💚#growitinthecity
I know everone is going ‘nanas over their tomatoes, aubergines, chillies and capsicums at the moment. But I didn’t have many brassicas last season thanks to our 🐀 visitors so I am equally beaming at my spring cabbages and broccoli right now!
Moving the Basil (‘Lettuce Leaf’, seed from Diggers) out of the greenhouse today to harden off. Now that the temps are rising I try and move all things ‘punnets & tubes’ swiftly as they require a minimum of twice daily watering on warm days (and who has the time for that?!).
This is my failed Aubergine Ranchero experiment. I tried growing it as a perennial. And it looked promising at the end of August when it sported some flowers but deteriorated after that. New aubergine seedlings have gone into the ground now so this one is going into the compost!
I saw a couple of posts from Sydney- siders who have successfully overwintered their aubergines (one was a seedling that was overwintered in a greenhouse). As for Melbourne-it’s probably neither worth the space or hassle.

Good morning! My tomato seedlings had abit of a rough day yesterday (wind and rain). I tried to toughen them up abit but placed them back under the cover. Can you see the second true leaves coming through 👀🌱
My worms tried to escape last night 😰 there are so many reasons why they try to escape, adjusting to new home, hungry, weather etc. I still have no idea but decided I would feed them for the the first time last night (cauliflower off cuts). I checked on them this morning and they seem to be settled again.
We have had almost 24hrs of rain and it is really showing in the garden - love it! I was pretty excited to have a quick wander around this morning and see all of the new growth. It was cold and wet but that's never stopped me before - although it is sometimes a little quicker in these instances ha. Oh, and remember the Kale Christmas Tree? It now looks like a Christmas Tree Skeleton - brought to you by Cabbage worm 😒 Looks like something out of a gardening horror movie haha There is a pic in my story 🌿(no filter on this pic - can you believe that green?!)
🌾What a flurry these last couple of months have been. Most days, I have a to-do list a mile long, [on top of a full-time job...] that never seems to get finished, but if I'm honest, I really haven't minded too much since most of what I've been up to is caring for the people I love the most. My dad moved to TN in August and while that's certainly been a dream come true [literally] it hasn't been easy for anyone. Ill tell you just briefly, he's leg is now in a cast for the next 3 months which makes moving him into his new house a challenge to say the least. 🌌The cosmic irony is not lost on me though, that once I was finally surrounded by [most] of my family, - my lil bro + sis-in-law are coming in a couple years - the challenges have really stepped up a notch...(Or TEN! Hah!) That's just how things roll around here. 😅 So needless to say, keeping up with the autumn garden has taken a less prominent place in my schedule, and that's ok. It's still producing, and I've got many months to complete the few big projects I've got it mind (removable cold frames for the raised beds, building a BAT HOUSE🐲, and digging in a brand new veg patch...) but for now, I'm kind of enjoying watching it slink back into chaos. 👌
This weekend is National Tree Day! This beautiful Moreton Bay fig is in Daintree National Park, Queensland, and photographed by @Steve.Parish.

👩🏻🌾This week’s harvest at the @mccno @centerplate_ Rooftop Garden 🌇🥗🎉 While we’re waiting on our major crops (tomato, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots and beans) we’re enjoying the consistent harvest of salad greens and herbs 🌿
Maybe the extra beautiful view helps these veggies grow so well? 😜😍
