Well that was one of the wildest endings to a 19th century play I've ever read #theoctoroon

A studio portrait of American-born stage actress Miss Grace Hawthorne (Priscilla A. Cartland), who operated two theatres in London during the 1880's and 90's. She may look angelic but was in fact later tried and convicted for being an accomplice in an attempted murder.😲 She was born in my home state of Maine.πŸŒ²πŸ“Œ Original Carte-De-Visite photographed by "Van Der Weyde". Circa 1890 from my 🌁 collection.

She was born Priscilla A. Cartland, daughter of Asa Cartland, an innkeeper on Levant Road, and Priscilla Godwin; first married John Murray, at Kensington, England; later married to Bernard Sargeant de Santleys (born 1877 in London; died 23 June 1912 in New York). Arrested in 1915 in New York as an accomplice in an attempted murder."
