When I was 15, I did this report on body mods at school (as you do), using quotes from Genesis P-Orridge in Modern Primitives. My teacher gave me an F and said I made it up, and 'you think I can't tell Genesis Porridge (ha) is a fake name?' My junior year school photo was in an old Psychic TV tee, and I think I even tried to carve a Psychic Cross into my arm as a sign of devotion🙈 angsty teenage goth banter aside, Genesis was and is a true poet and visionary, without whom the music scene would be incredibly dull and entire genres wouldn't exist. They broke barriers and challenge the public's view of performance art, gender and identity. Tonight i finally got to hear their voice and connect the dots from 20 years of music and words. This show was bloody fantastic ❤️ #genesisporridge#psychictv#psychicktv#legend#echoplex#echopark#gig#throbbinggristle
S/HE IS HER/E
I thought I'd celebrate getting settled at my flat and finally getting back to posting books and other creepy/heavy shit, by sharing some of the pages of one of the rarest books I own, as I no doubt have a few followers who would like to read this.
Not quite sure about the uniform position for future books... who cares 🙃
As autumn sweeps in, our current campaign finds its form as a pride-filled love-letter to the #NorthofEngland : our homeland and infinite inspiration source.
As catholic as our obsessions are- our aversion to the mundane would not have been if it weren’t for the muddle of creativity the North had nurtured us with.
And it has to be the music that we love most. The #Manchester , #Sheffield and #Liverpool alumnus are obvious; but looking beyond to more obscure names from #York , #Bradford and #Barnsley is worthwhile.
If you look closely enough- you will find one illustrious, innovative and iconic band of each and every genre, and not even just #PostPunk or #Madchester . #Synthpop ? #TheHumanLeague . #HairMetal ? #Whitesnake . #Funk ? #RuthCopeland . #Industrial ? #ThrobbingGristle .
The only medium that we found that could do it justice was commissioning the piece of artwork above that exhibited the vast and extensive nature of the sound of the North. The dimensions of our window have been the only constraint in preventing us from cataloguing the almost infinite list of bands that have resided the region from the 20th Century to now. Perhaps your band is on here- and if that’s the case then we thank you for providing the sounds of our store and studio.
Registered in no order- not according to their geography, genre, generation or achievements - the names have been ordered indiscriminately to create the shape of the North. The only thing that matters is that they are north.
Please forgive us if we’ve forgotten anyone- and if you are a northern band that wants to be featured on our website and media, send over an email to email@example.com
My legend of a Dad sent me Cosey Fanny Tutti's autobiography!! Looking forward to hearing someone hate on Genesis porridge for ages and sharing nuggets of industrial wisdom !?!?? Yeah #tg#throbbinggristle#art#sex#music
