More than 10 years of my career was dedicated to working in #film#vfx as a #3D layout and #matchmove at companies like #ILM and #tippettstudio My favorite part was match animating. Most people have no clue what that is so here is a visual. We would take 3D rigged models of actors and overlay them on the raw footage, then animate the rigs to match the actors motion. The 3D "skin" would then be replaced with whatever VFX creation was needed - in this case, one of my shots on #piratesofthecaribbean Part 2, it's ghost pirates. Then animators would polish and detail animate the final creatures. See slide 1 for what I looked at when doing my work, and slide 2 is how the final shot looked! #layout#matchmove#lucasfilm#bestVfxacademyaward
Five years of MAD GOD at #tippettstudio and it never gets old. Here's the crew reviewing some high speed footage for part four. From the stage and the storyboards, this place is damn near utopian.
I helped just a teensy amount on these, machined a few bracket parts and whipped up the plastic head "handles". The actual inventor Craig Hayes got an Oscar for these input devices back in the day. #jurassicpark#tippettstudio#dinosaurs
Had a super fun time tonight at a TEA Western Division event at the visual effects company Tippett Studio in Berkeley! Phil Tippett, the founder, has worked on such notable films as Jurassic Park (for which the miniature I'm next to is from), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Star Wars. Thanks to @tippettstudio and @shanegrammerarts for organizing - this industry is amazing! #themedentertainment#tippettstudio#jurassicpark#rawr
