Helen, Sol and Moonlight -the rescued chickens-meet for the first time! Helen is telling them who is boss. Sol and Moonlight are off their meds, are growing lots of feathers and are becoming more lively everyday. Lastly, we found out Sol is actually a boy. 🐔🐔🐔 #MicroSanctuary#LifewithHelen#OpenRescue
#KaporosRescue Update: Our lovely two rescued chickens are doing great! Walking around more, eating healthily, and they've become the best of friends! And it turns out Sol is a rooster! Please donate to help support our rescued chickens and help us save more lives! Link in bio. 📲
We are on @DNAInfochi! Read about it at the link in bio. There is no such thing as killing someone who does not want to die "humanely" and we have been inside the slaughterhouse and there is nothing humane about it! We've seen sick and dying animals but even if they were in perfect condition, that's still not ok. Animals are not ours to use for any reason and they all deserve to live.
One of the humans who lives above the slaughterhouse called our characterization of it "one-sided", a very typical speciesist response that completely neglects the chickens' point of view. We are not here to protest their conditions. We are not here to protest their Amish upbringing. We are not here to protest the "mom and pop" facade (because if mom and pop commit violence its okay, but not big corporations??). We are here to protest the EXISTENCE of any institution that commits violence or normalizes violence against animals in Chicago. We are here to amplify the voices of the birds who are crying inside for their freedom and for their right to exist without violent and exploitative interference from humans.
Our little rescues have been rehomed to another sanctuary where they can live their lives on the pasture! Thanks to those who helped with transport and rehoming! Please donate to cover vet bills and help us rescue more animals! Link in bio 📲
We found out they may only have 6 months to live because of the way humans have bred them! Sol has a heart murmur, is anemic and has inflammation on her bottom and wings.
Moonlight is more anemic, has a heart condition and her wings are also inflamed. They both have trouble standing for very long because of their size and how young they are. The vet said they are about 7 weeks old. The industry typically kills them when they are just 40 days old. Please stop supporting violence against animals and take action for them! Please donate to help with their recovery. Link in bio 📲
Sol and Moonlight's first time being outside since being rescued from death at the Kaporos event. Listen to their chirps, they sound like baby chicks because they are. Don't be fooled by their large bodies! They are bred to gain weight fast because of our demand for their bodies. The industry typically kills them when they are 40 days old. Humans are literally eating children when they eat animals. Please stop supporting violence towards animals and take action for them.
We just did our first open rescue! @sarahdga16 was raised in an orthodox jewish community, but left because of rituals like #Kaporos which harm animals. Last night she went back with a rescue team and saved Moonlight and Sol. They were in line to be killed after they were used in the ritual but we saved them. Watch how they did it and follow along to see their recovery! Thank you @sarahdga16, @wokevegana, and Kelsey Atkinson! Full video in bio! 📲
RESCUED!! These two were in line for slaughter at a Kaporos festival last night until two activists, @sarahdga16 and @wokevegana stepped in and rescued them! They are now safe! Video to come! Spread to share hope! This is our first #OpenRescue !
Bearing witness never gets less disturbing, less heart-wrenching or any easier but we cannot flee from the violence. You would be doing yourself and more importantly the animals a huge disservice by remaining ignorant to their suffering. We need to protest places that normalize violence to show that this isn't right nor does it have to be this way. The world is slowly waking up but not fast enough. @chicagoanimalsave
Last week, a few of our members visited a slaughterhouse where they saw what happens behind the scenes - boiling chickens alive, de-feathering while sometimes still alive, blood splattered floors, all in the name of tradition. Today we went back to the same slaughterhouse to spread our message of LOVE. When you love something, you take it as a part of yourself. Compassion is intrinsic in everyone, we just get conditioned out of it by the constant brainwashing from the media, which exists for one thing - profit. Listen to your heart - are you a protector or a predator? We are determined to change the direction of our food system for the benefit of everyone - animals and humans alike. Violence towards any living being should never be tolerated, for "It is no measure of good health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society."
Today, activists with Chicago Animal Save linked arms inside of a slaughterhouse as a means of protection for the birds trapped inside and gesture of resistance against those who were going to kill them. We opened up our hearts to the workers inside and pled for the lives of these beautiful birds, but to no avail -- this time. We left roses on their cages as we bid them farewell before taking to the streets to block traffic on a busy street in Chicago and tell everyone within bullhorn distance exactly who we saw inside and why they deserved to live. We will shut down slaughterhouses and #FreeThemAll . Join us for #justice for animals! Follow @chicagoanimalsave
Chicago Animal Save had a booth at @chicagoveganmania today! A lot of folks interested in participating in vigils and learning what our mission is. We had Anita from @torontopigsave along with one of our organizers speak at the event explaining the importance of bearing witness. If you would like to get involved shoot us a direct message! @chicagoanimalsave

Today is our last morning together. Tomorrow they leave for their forever home on a beautiful micro sanctuary with the 4 other lucky babies that were rescued with them. It's bitter sweet because I've grown quite attached to these guys but know that a sanctuary is the best place for them.
In the last 4 days Aazadi and Esperanza have come a long way from the terrified birds they were on the transport truck.
We weren't sure Aazadi was going to make it as he seemed to suffer from shock and exhaustion. Esperanza was very motherly with him and would sit on him, as the mothers they never knew would have. She helped clean his feathers while I gave him a light sponge bath. As he regained his strength it was obvious that her tending to his needs created a strong bond between them. Now that Aazadi is the larger, stronger of the two Esperanza seeks comfort under Aazadi and will fall asleep with her head between his feet as he coos her to sleep. It's beautiful to watch.
Things I didn't know about chickens:
* they have better eyesight than humans! I was amazed at their ability to track a fly in front of their face with ninja style reflexes! And when planes fly over head they tilt their little heads up to watch them go by... as my dog and cat are completely oblivious to anything happening above them.
* chickens can recognize up to 100 human faces! They have both run to me to seek shelter under my legs from noisy building construction next door and now peep when they see me, especially in the morning
* chickens are very affectionate and love to cuddle with each other and also lean into me, falling asleep next to my leg.
* chickens are really chill & accepting. Both my cat and dog have spent a lot of time with the birds and never have they shown fear or aggression towards them. Only fascination.
The rescue and foster of these individuals has been an incredible experience and there is no doubt in my mind that these babies are intelligent, kind, loving and value their lives. For those of you who don't believe me and still think it's ok to consume them I dare you to spend a day getting to know one. #chickensofinstagram#openrescue#torontochickensave#stoptheviolence
All of the souls we witnessed on these trucks outside of slaughterhouses and at the factory farms endured lives of nothing less than hell. Is this brainwashing? Bearing witness to the horrifying conditions in which these animals lived their lives until their last final breaths, would you describe this as making (someone) adopt radically different beliefs by using systematic and forcible pressure? If so, that would be defined as brainwashing.
What you see in this video are various accounts of spending brief moments with victims of an industry so few question and challenge, yet so many support knowing full well what destruction they are causing but they "just don't care enough" or "they are different". None of this makes sense to me.
We forcefully impregnate nonhuman females to have several babies they will never meet, we confine mothers within bars where she cannot even turn around or nourish her young, we kill baby boys in grinders or suffocate them in garbage bags and isolate them in a tiny plastic crate so they can't drink their mothers milk. We send them in dark and filthy trucks covered in filth, standing on their feet for up to 60 hours at a time with no food or water in conditions where they suffer injury, develop diseases and bleed out of their bodies, we send mothers still lactating off to the kill floor because she is no longer "productive". Is this brainwashing or do you see it as it truly is, plain and clear as day -- a social injustice, a war against animals that humans have been fuelling for thousands of years and in 2017 we somehow continue to support and allow?
How this is possible I don't understand, how we see it and know what's happening and continue to be blind and ignorant I don't understand.
Every single day you sit down at the table, you have a choice to make - will yours have a victim?
Be vegan, be peace and be their voice! ❤️📢🐾☮️🌱✌🏼️
Today Chicago Animal Save went inside of a slaughterhouse. What we witnessed was unbearable but needed to be exposed. Stay tuned for a video sharing this traumatic experience in the coming hours. @chicagoanimalsave
They come here only knowing to be pig, cow, or chicken... they embody their beingness fully without holding back. They exist because the sun rises every day just as we do. They don't shield. They trust because that's all they know. To pretend we don't know their trust. To pretend we don't know their beingness... is the greatest crime of all time.... to ourselves and our Mother Earth. Denying their rights is denying our own. We need to nurture this... my god do we ever need to nurture this. @weanimals
Thank you @officialgreymusic & @chefnikkiinthemix for joining us to bear witness yesterday in Toronto and for sharing your gifts with our community! Two beautiful people changing the world for the better! 🙏🏼✌🏼✨
Kaporos: Wasted Wings will be released this coming Sunday, August 27. My Patreon supporters will most likely get to see it earlier. You won't want to miss this.
Do you know how #FoieGras is made? Tubes are stuffed down the birds throat, often puncturing and causing internal bleeding. The tubes are used to force-feed grain and fat, which causes the birds liver to swell up to 10 times it's size. Then, the bird has difficulty standing because their engorged livers protrude out of their abdomen. They may pick out their own feathers and attack one another out of stress. Please, don't support this dish. #FoieGras#AnimalCruelty#TorontoChickenSave
