🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑🌒🌓🌔🌕 Watching the total solar eclipse in real life has made the 15 hour traffic and almost got T boned while driving in Jurassic park worth it. It was definitely an once in a lifetime experience. Thank you @azngarydasnail for organizing everything and count me in for the next eclipse haha 📷📽 @karennyc
Ugh IG won't let me tag people after posting, but you know who you are.
An #eclipse happens when a planet or moon gets in the way of the sun’s light. Here on Earth, we can experience two kinds of eclipses: solar eclipses and lunar eclipses.
A #solareclipse eclipse happens when the moon gets in the way of the sun’s light and casts its shadow on Earth. There are three types of solar eclipse which is the total solar eclipse, partial solar eclipse and the annular solar eclipse. The first image shows the total solar eclipse which is formed when the sun, moon and Earth are in a direct line. The #totalsolareclipse eclipse is only visible from a small area on Earth. To be able to see it one must be in the center of the moon’s shadow when it hits the Earth.
The second image type which is the #partiallunareclipse eclipse happens when the sun, moon and Earth are not exactly lined up. The sun appears to have a dark shadow on only a small part of its surface.
The third type is an #annularsolareclipse . It happens when the moon is farthest from Earth, it seems smaller. It does not block the entire view of the sun. The moon in front of the sun looks like a dark disk on top of a larger sun-colored disk. This creates what looks like a ring around the moon. Information from #nasa .
#saset#sasetfacts#faktasaset
For this week’s Astrophoto Thursday, I selected a photo of the total solar eclipse on August 21, 2017. It’s not a single image but a stack of multiple photos shot with exposure times from 1/4000 to 4s. It’s absolutely impossible to capture the whole range of brightness of the solar corona in a single exposure. You can even see the Earthshine on the Moon.
The corona might look impressive in the photo but it’s not even close to the real thing. I say it again: go and see a total solar eclipse with your own eyes.
The photo was taken through a Pentax 75SDHF refractor with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III camera. Tracking was done using the mighty @fornaxmounts LighTrack II equatorial mount. All frames were acquired automatically using Xavier Jubier’s Solar Eclipse Maestro software.
🌟 I thought this was really cool especially after seeing the #totaleclipse this year. Each of those squares on the disco ball is a photo of an eclipse, making each reflection of light look like a miniature eclipse. #UMFA
The idea for this eclipse painting came to me as a fully formed image in my head. I can’t think of any other way I’d like to commemorate 2017 than with this event, a moment of wonder that brought us together across the nation.
Finally got the time to make a composite image of the phases of the 2017 #totalsolareclipse , as seen from my vantage point in Cascade Canyon, on the north face of Grand Teton. This is how it would look if it were possible to have solar #eclipse glasses that kept the sky and scenery at twilight brightness. Finding the perfect spot to view the eclipse with an amazing foreground was half the fun. Thank heavens the weather was cooperative. #hiking#astrophotography#naturephotography
Total Solar Eclipse 2017 Composite .. finally completed this massive project 🤓
Images captured with my wonderful father back on August 21 from the centerline of the Moon’s umbra shadow path using Canon gear alongside suppprting casts of Gitzo tripods; Really Right Stuff ballheads, brackets, clamps, & plates; and Wimberley gimbal heads.
Wimberley is a father-son partnership and it is important to point out this composite would not be complete without the assistance of Deddy. As facts hold truth, Really Right Stuff has had 2 ownership entities wherein each entity comprised-s of a husband and wife — here again we must not leave out my wonderful mother bc she was there with Deddy and me and my wonderful little girl Heather Ann bc she was there in spirit (as well as on the phone). SIDE NOTE:
Canon manufactured from Japan, Gitzo manufactured from Italy, Really Right Stuff manufactured from the USA, Wimberley manufactured from the USA, Celestial Bodies Manufactured by Our Creator on the 4th Day of Creation
#tbt to our magical adventure out west. We explored the Badlands, Bighorn, Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons all on the way to see the total solar eclipse 🌞😎. So grateful for our national parks and forests. Incredibly inspiring. Take me back!
