Throwback to my 4th Full Ironman In Mallorca, Spain 🇪🇸 just a few years ago while coaching my good friend Billy to his 2nd Ironman finish. This race had a very challenging and hilly bike but the scenery was incredible. They are calling it the 'Kona' of Europe.
The only swimming lessons we had as kids was if you're still treading water after 2 minutes in your pyjamas then you've passed. I'm not the quickest swimmer at all but the fact after a 30 mile bike ride I can go and blast out a 1.2 mile swim proves that all the training and following the plan has and is working.

I never did a real post on 70.3 Ohio so we will do a #tbt today! Ohio was tough! My fitness was there but racing with a cast was no joke!
The swim was wetsuit legal but I couldn't wear a wetsuit since my cast wouldn't fit, so I tried a swim skin for the first time! Swimming with a cast is no joke. It hurt like hell and I basically could only get movement from one arm. I finished with my (obviously) slowest swim time ever and third to last in my AG!
I got on the bike Camelback and all. I'm not a fan of Camelbacks but I had no way of grabbing a bottle. The first few miles were on really choppy roads and I was worried about my cast staying on the bars. Roads smoothed out and were perfect for aero (since I couldn't do any other position anyway!). The flat course made it so I rarely had to shift. When I did, I just slammed it with my cast. #smart . I managed to bike a PR at 2:44 and moved up about 32 places. Something good came out of the day!
I was hoping to maintain the good flow, but the run unfortunately was hot as hell and felt like it never went anywhere but up! I wasn't used to seeing so many people walking but it spoke to the day. I gave up on my "A cast goal" and just slogged through. I was super happy to wrap up my day.
Though it wasn't a great day, I'm so happy I was able to race with the cast. It made me much more ok with getting the surgery as I felt I'd been able to at least get this race in!

This Sunday my dad will be racing in his 11th Ironman (swim: 3.8km, bike: 180km, run: 42km). This is his 3rd time racing this course and my mom and I are here to 🗣 cheer him on! This is a picture I took of him a few years ago on race day.
