How did you start yoga? 🕉
My love for all things yoga started in 2015 when I fell in love with a couple pairs of yoga pants online (this is 1 pair!) and bought them and then started following yoginis who wore them and then kind of fell in love with yoga like that. Then I was going to be turning 40 in March 2016 so I wanted a New Year's resolution that I would keep for myself to improve myself. It was the first New Year's resolution I've ever made. Then, I started by joining yoga challenges on Instagram. That gave me a pose to practice each day so that kept me accountable. I did more than just that pose because I would be searching around Instagram getting inspired. I started right away Yoga Camp with Adrienne on YouTube and Kino's May I Begin Yoga on YouTube. I used a couple apps on my mobile device. Yoga Studio and Down Dog. I also had a subscription to myyoogaworks.com online, and I loved it. I like using the app Insight Timer for guided meditation. I also used to take a weekly complementary yoga class at the local yoga clothing store. Currently I don’t attend classes, for a couple reasons, not because I don’t want to. So now if I have a specific thing I want to work on I search YouTube.
How often do you practice?
ideally every day. However that has not been true for the nearly 2 years I’ve been practicing. Currently I’m practicing daily 1 to 2 hours. But not solid or hard core.
If you can listen to the conversation I had with my coworker, I accuse her of not caring about me since she doesn’t watch my headstand. 😒😤
▪️Get your feet above your butt ASAP. ▪️Squeeze your core before you even start pushing up
▪️Put lots of strength in your arms 💪🏼👌🏼

#namaste 🙏
BLIND FLOW YOGA & SOUND THERAPY WORKSHOP
Blindflow Yoga is back; this time with a twist (both the asana practice and the ending! Hah!) Jasmine will guide practitioners to move with every intention to slow things down, remove the visuals to help us feel, hear and sense deeper.
With the blindfolds on, it will remove any assumptions/judgements of what you already know, or what a certain yoga pose should look like and take your practice to another level with more awareness to how the physical yoga practice can benefit the body and mind.
A special guest yoga instructor Lishan will bring us to an experience of the sacred alchemy of Tibetan singing bowls and tingshas layered with channeled vocal toning and singing.
Achieve deep relaxation through the resonant vibrations of her voice and Himalayan instruments that bring you into a state of bliss by activating your alpha, theta and delta brainwaves.

How about a headstand to start the week? Well it's time for another Monday inversion! Today we want to help you calm the mind with this yoga pose: Tripod Headstand (with Knees on Elbows)! .
As demonstrated by Angelic Cheah (@angel_adventurous), this pose helps to strengthen your arms, legs, and spine while building on your balance. For ladies, this also helps to relieve the symptoms of menopause.
Asanas are so much better when performed continuously; flowing from one pose to another.
This is my first attempt to transition from arm balance to a headstand then back to arms.
Felt great for all the muscles I activated and felt even better knowing that I can actually do it.
🌟You have 2 chances to join me on your mat @ the NEW Black Swan Yoga - West U location (Kirby & Bissonnet)!!!🌟 This Monday at 7:30 am and 9 am. Check out the new location. Grab a juice at @juiceland AND get sweaty with me soon. 🙏🙌🏾🌟✌🏾⭐️ #yoga#houston#houstonyoga#yogaeverydamnday
Tripod Headstand on my first attempt without a wall and without coming up via my arms. Not quite a float up but heyyy all in good time 😋 my experience with this and other headstands / balances is that all that holds me back is fear. I was never a gymnast, a dancer or one of those kids that flung myself up trees or dangled from the climbing frame, I was the overweight kid that cried when I was asked to do a forward roll (true story.) So this my yogi friends, is nothing short of a miracle and flip did it feel good! #gottastartsomwhere#proudofit#tripodheadstand#sirsasanaii#inversion#getupsidedown#yogawithmarie#yogaforbreakfast
