So. We are always looking at the stuff we sell, and the way we sell it, trying to evolve and innovate whenever possible, not only to continue to build a better offering to you guys, but also to be respectful to the place we live. Lots left to do, and it's a process to be sure, but we are stoked to announce a small switch here at Hā. Thanks to the prompting of Jackie Grant ( @jackieo0oh ) of Kaua'i Juice Co and Chicken Whisperer fame 😉 we are making the switch from plastic to paper straws (!🐙¡). Why does that matter? Well, by our back of the napkin calculations, we typically have been throwing away (via selling stuff) a few thousand of those little guys a month 😐 The one you got in your drink (Mahalos!), doesn't seem like much. But we figured we were sending a large playground kickball or two worth out the door. Into the dump or worse. Every month.
Small fish in a world that is chucking 500 million of these out a year. 😑😑
But enough was enough. 😔😔
Amazingly, there are folks making some incredible products right now that fit our needs, and no, these are not the straws you grew up with. They are 👌👊👌 for sure. How do we know you ask?
We've done some extensive testing (both internally and with folks taking them outside the shop) with these and found that they are great for the sort of to go beverage that we use at Hā, with a life span of 4-6 hours in liquid with no problem. Now yes, they don't last forever, but that kind of is the point isn't it?
We may still have few plastic straws hanging around the shop, so don't shoot us if they show up by accident because a new worker didn't get all the notes 😭 AND the supply chain is still working out for us (so Kaua'i), but our goal is to have it all stocked up and fully switched by the mid to end of July 🐬🐳
By the by, if you are around our neck of the woods, use plastic straws and would be interested in making the switch as well, it's pretty economical, and we would love to get you the info to make that happen. Just let us know 😏 🌴
What #islandlife on the Gili's looks like: riding with a bike through palm tree forests 🌴💚! - btw. we lived in @lacocoteraieecolodge, which is situated in this dreamy forest & it's my favorite hotel recommendation!
