With so many nutritional and fueling options it’s been a process learning to what exactly and how the body responds...high carbs, low carbs, fat adaptation, protein intake timing, intermittent fasting and so on. Although the impact of cycling on the body is quite different from ultra running @teamsky and its nutritionist Dr. James Morton have shown that over time you can train your body to effectively use carbs or fat based on the demand of individual training sessions and stage races. This is still a highly debated topic and I am getting closer to fine tuning what works on my end. Many thanks to @stephaniemarieviolett for guiding me through the slew of options! P.S. if you decide to try a 26 mile run on an empty stomach out in the wild...yeah...make sure to take at least a back up fueling option... #nutrition#nutritionist#ultramarathon#runningonempty#runhappy#performance#fueling#lowcarb#runfast#shadow#26miles#eatright#longrun
At PRIME, we use only organic grass fed British beef + we know all the farmers that we source from so we know the incredibly high welfare standards they keep(it’s not just bought off the market like most other meat snacks). This isn’t just another energy bar made with dried oats or squashed dates compiled from unknown sources and sold as healthy (when really it’s just a block of sugar). These are the BEST ingredients because we know you care. Never before has so much gone into creating the perfect snack!

Ridiculously beautiful skies on my run today. After a late one last night celebrating my oldest friend's birthday the run did not start well but there's nothing like a bit of cold fresh air to cure a hangover!!!
So a few weeks ago I left Jason unattended watching a documentary about an ultra marathon. I went to bed before him and he booked an ultra in Scotland which he raced today. He kept it quiet to most folk but I'm going to blab now. He ran the Tweed Valley Ultra - 40 miles/65k of mountainous, icy terrain. He came 6th in 5:55. It's been a while since his last marathon or ultra so hopefully it's out of his system now!! 💪🏻 ❄️ 🏃🏻#ultramarathon#tweedvalleyultra#runnersofinstagram
Yesterday I woke up at 2am to go run 50 miles - my first ultra marathon! My phone died quick for some reason, but the views were spectacular. I finished the race in 13 hrs 32 mins, and everything hurts!

RACE SEASON 2017 OVER ✖️
Three years ago I was getting bored at the gym, struggling to stay motivated fitness wise and looking for a healthy hobby. Running presented itself to me. The first time I ran I couldn’t even make it a half a mile. But I kept at it, worked hard, set goals, stayed determined, hydrated and dedicated and now three years later I’ve completed 3 marathons, 10 half marathons, 7 triathlons, decreased my 10k mile pace from 10:00 to 8:15 and NOW A ULTRAMARATHON. Hard work pays off as does sticking to goals. I have one race left on my bucket list and a few goals left. HALF PB 🎉 After a week of fighting a cold with zero running I toed the start line of the @semi_de_boulogne half marathon in my hometown 🇫🇷with little expectations🙈 My legs felt like jelly for the first miles and my lungs and sinuses were still sore and inflamed... but I started conservatively and once I realised today was going to be a good day I switched to race mode after 5 miles /8k approx🏃♂️💨 With good race management making sure I was taking a little something at each aid station every 5k I smashed my PB by more than 6 minutes with an official time of 1:24:17 🏅🕺 Considering I almost bailed out this morning it confirms the fact that a lot of negative thoughts are not based on anything real.. don't listen to the little demon 😈 Glad to see that I improved my time since my first ever race (a half too) by more than 30 mins. Hardwork and patience pay off 👊 Shoutout to @tinyyogahabits @gusheron @alexisanghert and PE for smashing their PBs or simply completing it! A half is never easy. #SemiBB#SemiDeBoulogne#SemiBoulogne#PlantBased#IMoveMe#AsicsFrontRunnerUK#TailWindNutritionFrance#HelloRegalo
Awesome throwback of @kirk_klane working out in Viva Athletic’s orange compression top. REPOST: “Great workout at the track today at the Canada games centre. I did 8 rounds of a 400 meter run and timed burpees of 3 minutes. In the 8 rounds I got 220 burpees. Next time I am going to do my 400 meter run within the 3 minute window and then do my burpees and see how many I get. Kilometers to date 1,823. Time to rest up and get ready for long run Sunday! Congrats to all Spartans who conquered in Los Angeles and Jacksonville today and to @luke.sky.runner who crushed 100K last night in less than 12 hours.

🇨🇦 - They call me crazy for getting outside for a run every day, watching the sun rise or set, breathing fresh air while they sit on the couch for endless hours staring at a glowing screen on the wall.
• I DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE WALL •
As a runner, I know what it means to hit the metaphorical wall. I remember hitting it at mile 38 in the JFK a couple years ago. I had the belief that I would never finish the race. My body was broken down into a million pieces from running farther than I had ever run in my entire life. To think I had to add another 12 miles on top of that was something I had trouble comprehending. 😩 I knew it would take well over 2 hours to do.
I also knew that I trained for months for that moment. Even years before the race, before I was a runner, I would pump myself up over the thought of being able to do it. I knew that crossing that finish line, wearing that medal, 🏅and being able to say “I finished the JFK 50” meant more to me than what pain I felt at mile 38.
It was time to tear down the wall. 👊🏻💥
You don’t have to be a runner to hit a wall. In fact, I feel like there has been a wall between me and the success I seek in finding financial freedom 💸 as a coach. But if I let that wall win, I will never be able get to that finish line and celebration. 🎉🚫 My reason WHY is stronger than any fucking wall. I’m not gonna settle and find some corporate bullshit job that tells me how to act and how to dress in order to make a paycheck. I am not going to deal with the stress and anxiety that intensifies in all the jobs that I take on. A wall isn’t gonna fucking stop me from WHAT I WANT!
What have you wanted to achieve in life where a wall has blocked you?

These two weeks off have been incredible for both body and mind. Rest is just as important as training. If not, more so.
Tomorrow the restart and the rebuild begins and I honestly cannot wait.

Last run in the 2017 #six4six campaign is complete! #first#ultramarathon ✅ This #50miler is certainly one for the books. From almost not getting to the start line, hitchhiking for rides, getting lost during said 50 miler, wardrobe malfunction to experiencing hypothermia and more; each unexpected challenge is a story of its own. I was truly afraid at the last 4.5 miles when it was 29 degrees, pitch dark with the uncertainly of being on the correct path (again!) because the blue flags were no where to be seen. But through it all, it reminded me of the challenges stacked against our kids each and every day. To see them excluded because they do not fit society's norm infuriates me to no end. Just because they may behave differently, communicate differently, perhaps loud when the expectation is for them to be quiet or move about when they are meant to sit still, does not mean that they don't understand and are not able. And it certainly does not mean that they need to be excluded from their peers and society. This is our mission, and what we strive for each and every day. To ensure that every individual has full accessibility and inclusion. We embrace diversity in race, religion, gender equality- what about diversity in abilities?
I am thankful for everyone who has supported this journey, who stood with us, shared stories, for your relentless fighting, and being unapologetic in your stance. Change is coming, slowly but surely. Lots of emotions with completing the #ulta and the #six4six campaign. Couldn't have done it without the support of my family, my running peeps (for those 330 am long runs, and for always bringing the banana when it was needed most), and all of you who gave generously to the #sensory and #lifeBOKs initiative. Together, we formed 4 running teams, ran in major marathons, and raised not only funds for our kids, but elevated the level of awareness and pushed the boundaries of inclusion. #inclusion#acceptance#potential#limitless#children#autism#weareone @kulturec @nascar_fdn @kimberlyguilfoyle @tiki.barber @garibaldiarts @nationwide88 @jindermahal @susannepattersonmoore @itsvortiz
Valencia conquistada de nuevo!! 🤘🏻
Disfrutando muchísimo de la carrera, del ambiente y del público 😁
42,2km 3:09:50 4:30min/km
