Wild Stars (1984), Issue 1: In the distant future a high stakes game of backgammon is underway, and the fate of earth hangs in the balance! A kamikaze ambush by an evil race of aliens is imminent, but the passengers of their target, a wild star escort ship, are completely oblivious to the impending terror. In the on-board casino, Erlick, an immortal ‘ancient hero’–master and protector of all ‘wild stars’ (aka planetary safe havens for humanity scattered across the cosmos)–will gamble the deeds to three of these terrestrial satellites for the chance at winning ‘Old Atlantis’ (nee Earth) from his corrupt compatriot, Carthage. Will Erlick be able to win back his father’s homeland before the ship is overrun by the deadly Brothans? Can a telepathic seductress be trusted to help? With a confounding story and equally puzzling artwork, this perfunctory effort is one of the earliest examples of unprocessed sci fi fandom in the power comics chronology. -@gabedikel
