"Boxer at rest". A statue dating back to around 50BC but more likely much older, found perfectly preserved underground. A rare example of Greco-Roman bronzework.
The statue is incredible in its detail, with scarring and bruises on the boxers face, cauliflower ears, and intricate leather handwraps around his fists. Not to mention the curvature of the muscles and the beard/hair detail.
What's also incredible is that before welding existed, the various pieces of bronze had joins that were filed and finished to be virtually invisible.
I'd go back to the #PalazzoMassimoAlleTerme museum just to see it again.
Three for Free
First - I love taking photos but when I'm on holiday I capture maybe ten pics in two weeks.
Secondly - I always have some food in my bag (and a labello, a book, some sweets, Kleenex, gloves, a bottle of tea and so on).
Thirdly - I hate carrying too much stuff in my bag 😂🤔 #soulful_bnw#unsquares
