Just watched #okja on Netflix and I could turn vegetarian right now and not look back. My heart sunk while watching a humble pig being taken away from her human mother and all I could think about was that it was me my Scarlett 🕊
There was a particular kind of creative energy pulsing from the workshop, constantly drawing me to the warmth of my dads presence... the smell of pine. I would spend hours sitting on a high stool watching his work unfold. As I got older, I was taught to use the drill press, the palm sander... planer. It was the beginning of a love affair... of tools and woodwork. My dad made furniture from scratch, raw organic material magically formed into beautiful objects. Thinking back, there was this profound comfort and pride, seeing that glow of his workshop window... knowing my dad was working late into the evenings, doing what he was passionate about, designing, creating... being his own boss.
I was never a designer, venturing instead into the realm of refinishing. It's an addiction, a secret mystery surprise, watching the unfolding of something that is ugly shed the layers of horrid paint and stain, evolving into something lovely. It feels good, to sit with myself, alone in contemplative thoughts, as I unfold this old couch. Each scrape is like a chant, a meditation. My overactive mind quiets and I find peace.... leaving my own garage light to shed a beacon of warmth out into the night. #theappledoesntfallfar#odetodad#ifthereismagiconthisplanet#upcycle#reuse#restorationproject#mindfulliving
I have consumed more caffeine in the last 72 hours than I have in a lifetime. I am going to need to find someone who drinks this stuff (DM if you know someone)...there are more cans I want to play with but I really can't have more caffeine! I do love the blue!
