Today is Roy Hargrove's birthday, a man I've always admired, who will forever be linked to one of the best concert I've ever seen... Little throwback to July 7th 2016, when I saw him and his band play at the Upstairs Jazz Club in Montreal.
A couple hours before the show, a power failure paralyzed the whole neighborhood... The club was plunged into the darkness, and boiling, as the air conditioning wasn't working. Still, the band was scheduled to play their set anyway. Disappointment was in the air, but we all tried our best to enjoy our night no matter what. When the band finally entered the club, we could barely see them... However, a few minutes before they began the set, some kind of lightning struck and the club was filled with light again, everybody was cheering! The place was packed with energy, and the band rushed into Lee Morgan's Tom Cat with a blast! What an atmosphere, what a night it was! 🔥🔥🔥
