We Love You, Sally Carmichael!!
I went to the premier of this awesome new movie tonight (a Utah-made film!) and absolutely loved it.
If movies can be affable, I'd describe it as affable. Fun, engaging, funny, and just a really good time.
The premise? Simon Hayes (played by Christopher Gorham- known to Mormons as the missionary from "Other Side of Heaven" and to most other people from "Covert Affairs" or "Ugly Betty" or several other things) is an author who's first book didn't sell so well. So he assumes an alter ego, and writes YA romance about a merman. (A perfect spoof on the Twilight series IMHO) His alter ego pen name is Sally Carmichael, and nobody knows that it's really him. Oh and the merman books enjoy the same success as Twilight series.
There's a fun romance between Simon and a bookstore owner. A cute little girl has some great parts. And for Utahans, there are a few Utah inside jokes to pick up on. There is exactly one reference to being Mormon that I can recall.
Super cute, super fun, and I highly recommend going to see it! (Opening weekend matters! Go now!) Oh and there are some fun cameos from local celebrities and much, much bigger names too! I was actually surprised at some of the big names that popped up!
And guess what D.C. people? I just might be working something out to bring a showing to you! You can thank me later by buying tickets!
