Keep Your Face Towards The Sunshine. Great mantra to live by. I read it as a way to embrace the beauty and the good in things instead of focusing on the negative. I love this mug not only because of the quote but because of the sunflowers! Who doesn't love sunflowers? I mean especially Van Gogh's!? I have this gorgeous print in my bedroom and enjoy waking up to it each morning. Sunflowers + Tea right before bed = satisfying! Did you know that the largest tea plantations are found in the plains of Assam, Kenya?! (And on industrial regions Argentina). I LOVE Assam tea. It is quite a popular black tea blend. #teatime#sunflower#vangogh#sunshine#mantra#tea#teamug#nightynight#beauty#ilovetea#assamtea#blacktea#kenya#teaplease#teaplantations#teatidbits
The Starry Night, Vincent van Gogh (1888)⠀
Vincent van Gogh’s iconic masterpiece is easily one of the most visited and photographed works of art at MoMA. A member of van Gogh’s nocturne series, it’s a companion piece to his work Starry Night over the Rhone (1888). The painting has numerous interpretations, which is why it continues to be one of the most captivating works of all time.⠀

PSA: all artists are different, use different techniques, have certain aesthetics, styles, emotions they're trying to portray in paintings and drawings. None of these are better than the others. They're all INCREDIBLE artists that have a place in history forever. Don't stop practicing, don't stop improving. It's okay if something is different or doesn't look exactly as you wanted it. As long as it made you feel something. 🌻(bonus points if you can name all 3 artists) #art#artist#style#paint#painting#painter#sketch#draw#flower#flowers#sunflower#surrealism#vangogh
-#vangogh

I'm not a huge art person. My taste is pretty basic and my favorite pieces can most likely be found hanging on the walls of a dorm room. ——————————
Today I visited the asylum where Van Gogh voluntarily spent a year in 1888-1889. Key takeaways:
• he checked himself in after 2 disturbing incidents - he had a bro fight with his bestie, Gauguin (they never spoke again), and then famously cut off his ear. • he drunkenly sliced his ear off with a razor blade (yikes!), gifted it to a favorite prostitute, and then passed out and almost bled to death. • there are conflicting reports about how much of his ear was cut off - just the earlobe or the whole thing. • there's also debate about *why* but the consensus seems to be bc his brother was getting married. Long story. • Van Gogh suffered from severe depression and bipolar disorder. He was confined to the grounds of the asylum and often made paintings of what he saw from his window. • he painted over 150 canvases at the asylum, including some of his most famous works - The Starry Night, Irises, Cypresses, some Self-Portraits (including the one where his ear is bandaged) and several Sunflowers. • BONUS - Van Gogh was a ginger! ——————————
It was incredible to stand and see the palette of mountains, flowers, and greenery that inspired his art. Van Gogh killed himself 2 months after leaving the asylum but his work will live on, thanks to street vendors, Home Goods, and college freshmen everywhere. 👨🏼🎨🇫🇷👂🏻🌻
