In honor of my sister in law Allison's one year wedding anniversary, I think it's the perfect time to post a throw back to my wedding gift to her. I made her this TV cabinet after being inspired by a few of the barn door ones floating around Pinterest. I chose to make my doors using some nice soft close hinges rather than the barn door hardware because.. well...barn door hardware is expensive! I also found the cute little arrow door pulls at Hobby Lobby. Allison helped me stain it and we chose to go with a two toned look, which turned out awesome! After getting this beauty in the room, we decided to keep rolling and made the matching floating shelves and blanket ladder using black nipple pipe which we spray painted an oil rubbed bronze...I'll do a post down the road on my twist on the blanket ladders you see everywhere. I made her the picture frame awhile back as a Christmas gift and she finished the wall off with her own sign over the TV and the cute matching dog bed for her new silver lab puppy Luna. Happy anniversary @allison_r_johnson and @dwesty4!
One of the first things I made when I got my #ryobislidingmitersaw and #kregjig was one of these wooden boxes to hold my painted mason jars. I was in love and couldn't wait to build more. Since then I have made many signs, benches and even a farmhouse table! Using power tools to make beautiful things has been a great way for me to stretch the creative side of me. The possibilities are endless. I am so grateful for the opportunity to do what I love and still be here for my family. ❤️
Found some really nice, wood shutters at my local Habitat for Humanity Restore. $2/each! I sanded the pieces down a bit, and used Varathane Wood Stain, natural color...to bring these shutters back to life!
Added them to the top of my window treatments in the living room. Kinda cool! #diymomma#habitatforhumanityrestore#varathanewoodstain#woodshutters#diy
Another project of mine completed a while back - chair and table set for my little chicken 💙 I have so many ideas for fun stuff for her. Grey chalk paint & Kona stained and distressed top #woodworking#anawhite#varathanewoodstain
Going back and forth with stain and paint colors for the barn door...🤔white paint or brown stain?? Then yesterday I found a beautiful finish @shanty2chic used on a few recent wood furniture projects..and found my finish🙌 Weathered grey stain with a java brown glaze😍 Check IG stories for progress😊
I can't even get a picture that really shows what's happening here! I am not a big fan of plain wood or wood colored stain. I'm ALL ABOUT the paint, folks! But this vintage highchair just screams for a fresh coat of stain and poly to bring it back to life! Because it's so dry looking I feel like it's just gulping up the stain and reviving! I've done the top half so far and it's looking awesome! It even has a leather strap that is attached to the tray and the seat! 😍 I'm just imagining all the babies that have sat here and pray over the future babies that will sit here! #vintagehighchair#varathanewoodstain#kona#refinishedfurniture#babiesareablessing
AVOID THIS PRODUCT!
I haven't been this mad in a while. I tried a new product. Figured drying times are the enemy, so 3 coats in 1 sounds wonderful. My table is ruined. Luckily it was for resale and not a customers piece. It has 3x the thinkness of brush marks. Its like finishing with elmers glue. Claims to be self leveling but was drying before I was even done applying. This was a refinishing after a DIY attempt so the veneers dont have another stripping left in them.
Home Hardwear refunded my money for the product, but a table and a few hours work are out the window.
