What I missed most while traveling is being able to create my own home cooked meals including smoothie bowls. I hadn't used my Vitamix in over a month and frankly was having withdrawals 😫 today I finally constructed an acai bowl with fruit and superfoods. You've probably already read that acai fruit is abundant in antioxidants and contribute to weight loss, anti-aging, as well as heart health. New research also shows that acai is also great for bone and teeth health due to its anti-inflammatory properties. But what exactly does this mean and how is this accomplished? Let's get nerdy and put my masters in biochemistry to use lol. The extracts from acai berry have been shown in vitro to decrease secretion of certain interleukins and tumor necrosis factors (immune mediators), thus inhibiting osteoclast activity (the cells responsible for bone resorption, or eating away at bone). This just means less bone loss and as we know, bone keeps your teeth in place so keep them healthy with plant foods and regular hygiene/checkups 😉
Rainy mornings in Cape Town spent venturing the CBD for vegan eats. Thought it was unusual for my chocolate breakfast bowl to be topped with avocado, but it worked. I'm actually fairly impressed with the vegan selection in South Africa 🇿🇦 you really can eat plant based anywhere in the world 🌱

Grew my hair for 3 years and chopped it in San Francisco (weirdly carrying back my hair on the plane for donation). Currently having a midlife crisis from turning 30 and refusing to come to terms that I look like an Asian soccer mom 💁🏻@locksoflovelol @wholesomeculture
5 days in Cape Town and it stormed each day I was there. I dreamed my whole life of climbing Table Mountain and it broke my heart that every excursion I'd planned had been shut down. But the city had been in an urgent drought, so the rain was welcomed by locals. At least I had uberEATS deliver me this vegan tofu poke, and the view of Camp's Bay beautiful even in a storm. Staying mostly indoors also allowed me to meet so many wonderful people (albeit too much alcohol at the same time). Next time I'll visit Africa in the summer - how many of you have seen Cape Town??

• No contienen colesterol
• Tienen fibra
• Sobrecargan menos el hígado y los riñones
• Fáciles de digerir
• Ideales para dietas bajas en calorías
• Son más baratas para nuestra economía y la del Planeta
I feel like sharing some thoughts that have been on my mind lately. Instagram is a wonderful platform, but the contents can be very toxic.
I see more and more "influencers" who try to use veganism and promote it as a cure to all evil. They constantly preach positivity - no matter what (which I think is a dangerous concept itself as negative thoughts need to be recognised, understood, and worked with rather than suppressed and replaced by positive thoughts) and usually appear to be very happy, they travel a lot, eat nutritious, colourful meals, look toned and slim, and seem to be content with their life as "they have found their true purpose/their authentic self/their mission/whatever". What bothers me most is that they present veganism as a universal solution for all problems - including mental and physical illnesses. It is important to clarify that veganism itself DOES NOT necessarily cure your depression, your eating disorder, your anxiety, or any other illnesses. It may increase or influence your physical health to a certain extent, depending on your level of excercise, the food you eat, and your general lifestyle.
Veganism DOES NOT contribute to your body shape unless you work for it because you want to. It is a lie that vegans automatically live happier, healthier lifes and are cured from their diseases. This is pretentious bullshit. Please dont think that you're somehow magically resistant to any negativity once you're vegan. Please don't believe your looks define you more than your actions. You can still be diagnosed with depression, you can become overweight or underweight, you can have your own struggles and it's okay. It's not your fault. Only a handful of people actually live the perfect Instagram life. Don't be fooled by false advertising and marketing. Be vegan because you want to make a change. Be vegan for the animals. Be vegan because you care. 🌱
This year marks my 6th year of being vegan - the best decision I've ever made. Not once have I doubted that veganism is the right choice and the only acceptable way to live my life. I had been vegetarian since 2006 but never fully grasped why and how it is so important to abstain from animal products and any form of animal abuse in order to make a change. Naturally, I had to learn a lot and engage with the topic extensively as well as allow myself to make mistakes from time to time. Back in 2012, nobody I knew was vegan and it would be very challenging at times to stay strong and enthusiastic during discussions/arguments with others. Thankfully, I am now surrounded by many wonderful animal loving people who share the same values, morals, ideas, and passions. It can be very frustrating to be vegan especially when confronted with how the majority of our society thinks - it's never frustrating to maintain being vegan, it's frustrating to realise how stubborn, lazy, blind, and egoistic most people are. It's not about your love for cheese or your passion for bacon - it's about the animals which cannot speak for themselves. It's about avoiding harm, avoiding cruelty, avoiding murder.
No matter what your personal goals and aspirations are, being vegan will never stop you from achieving them. If you truly understand what's wrong with consuming animal products and paying for amy form of animal exploitation, you will never want to go back. You will never want to be a part of this "business" ever again. You can make a difference, you can make a change. You can easily live your life and eat rice with veggies for ten days in a row without questioning your decision to be vegan because you know this is not about YOU and your personal comfort zone but about them - the voiceless, the murdered, the abused - the animals.
The only regret I have is that I didn't go vegan earlier.
