JOIN ME next week for Seed, Food, and Wine Week (@seedfw ) the first plant-based food and wine festival in South Florida. We have 5-days full of events and tons of food. I am excited to co-chair for the Seed Summit where we have two days of panels and workshops for content creators and influencers in conscious and sustainable living. I will be speaking on breaking the vegan mold; my 16 year journey as plant based Haitian-American (we come in different shapes, sizes, and backgrounds). I am preparing my tummy for the Burger Battle we should call it plant-based Burger Gluttony. Let's not forget festival day Saturday, November 4, where we have a 5k, food demos, tons of sampling and much more. You will definitely need your sneakers and empty stomach.

Even though most people have never visited a slaughterhouse, the panic, dread, and terror that await innocent beings, and the gruesome sights and sound which emanate from these hidden "houses of death" are not at all difficult to imagine. What many people do not realize is the same horrors are the fate of every animals that we use for food, clothing, testing, entertainment etc.
Veganism is a philosophy and a way of living which seeks to exclude - as far as possible and practical - all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.
If we believe that it is morally wrong to harm non-human animals, it logically follows that we need to stop enslaving and killing them for food, clothing, entertainment, science, and other purposes.
We need to start making choices that respects and protects the animals. If you plead for humanity but still support unethical practices through your consumer habits, then you are building a world you really don't believe in.
Animals share this earth with us, they are not for us. Animals are not property, commodities, or food.
By refusing to consume non-human animals and exploit them for any other reason in a society where exploitation has been normalized, we not only challenge an economic system built on oppression, we also challenge social norms which allow human beings to participate in exploitation without any qualms. The very existence of veganism forces humans to confront the morality of their lifestyle choices.

🍁 Sweet Potato Bread! 🍁
Such a fall satisfying alternative to the classic banana bread. Recipe from @frommybowl who makes such easy, delicious, & nutritious vegan food.
2 tbsp Ground Flax + 6 tbsp Water
2 1/2 cup Oats, ground into flour
2 tsp Baking Powder
2 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Salt
1/4 tsp Nutmeg (optional)
1 1/2 cup Mashed Sweet Potato Puree 1/2 cup Coconut Sugar
1/2 cup Unsweetened Plant Based Milk
1 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1/4 cup Almond Butter
First, preheat your oven to 350F. In a small bowl, combine 2 tbsp of Ground Flax with 6 tbsp of Water to form an "egg." Set Aside.
Second, combine all dry ingredients in a medium bowl and stir well.
In a large bowl, combine the Sweet Potato Mash, Almond Butter, Plant Milk, Flax Egg, Coconut Sugar, Vanilla Extract, and Apple Cider Vinegar. Mix until everything is well incorporated, then add in the dry ingredients. Gently stir until well combined.
Pour the batter into a greased or lined loaf pan, then bake for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out cleanly.
Let sit in the loaf for 10 minutes, then let cool completely on a baking rack before slicing. Store any leftovers at room temperature in a sealed container for up to 7 days. 😄🍃🍁🍂
Successfully made my own vegetable broth this week! It turned out delicious. I saved my vegetable scraps (peels, ends and in-betweens) includes lots of potatoes, carrots, cabbage, zucchini, onions, parsley, cilantro, tomatoes, mushrooms... whatever we used throughout the week - placed them all in a gallon bag in the freezer, added as I used them.
Once full, put in giant pot, cover with water and bring to a boil. I added minced garlic, more mushrooms, garlic and onion powder and some salt.
I left mine boiling for 20 minutes, then simmered for a few hours. I’ve heard many fails about this, so I figured the longer the better.
Turned out delicious and is saving me $8-$12 dollars. I made soup already and have frozen the rest into cubes, which will be kept in the freezer in a Tupperware. #nifty

💔🐄💔I drove to Southern California this weekend to meet with the Shelter Manager, Alicia, at Farm Sanctuary in Acton. Details and pictures to follow. The fastest route is Interstate 5. It's a long and boring drive, but I was relishing the blue skies and fresh, clean air after being around our Santa Rosa fire smoke for so long. Then...horrible smell. Sickening smell. For miles. And it's always the case on a couple of sections on that highway. Stockyards. Cattle crammed into too small of an area, living on dirt in their own filth...through no fault of their own. Heartbreaking. So many innocent souls. And the smell is nauseating because the environment they are trapped in is filthy. But guess what? Anyone can see this horror show from Interstate 5 and thousands of cars drive past these stockyards every day. Yet people still eat these animals...and their by-products. I am so glad I am vegan. I know what I am eating, not who I am eating, and I know I am not participating in torture and slaughter.
