Vegan yoghurt! I've been experimenting with making plantbased yoghurt as my boys love the storebought kind, but that means a) lots of plastic trash b) weird additives and c) spending bucketloads of money. I have tried making it with coconut milk and probiotics (fail), a mix of coconut milk, probiotics, and shredded coconut (fail - hated the texture though I tried to convince myself it was ok, it really was not) and now tofu with organic soy milk and probiotics. The texture is nice and creamy. I blend the tofu with the milk, then mix in two probiotics for about 600ml and let stand 12 hours wrapped in a tea towel inside my @thewonderbag. My boys enjoyed it mixed with some maple syrup. The amount of milk depends on how creamy you want it. I used about 300ml of plantbased milk. Now, it's not ideal because the soy in the tofu might be GM (it's not indicated and in SA you don't have to label if it's GM). But that was true for the storebought variety as well. On the plus side, I can buy the tofu in bulk and have them put in my own jar at the local chinese shop. It's also super affordable plus it's locally produced. I wish I could get young/ green coconuts here as I saw a great recipe using the tender coconut meat, but none of that can be found around here. But all in all, it's a decent compromise, now I just need to regulate its consumption!! #veganyoghurt#plantbasedyoghurt#vegan#plantbased#makeyourstaples
I love coconut yoghurt, it's a great alternative while my body isn't agreeing with dairy and to fill my gut with healthy bacteria. Check out my blog post about other great benefits of including coconut yoghurt into your diet (link in bio) x
