Last full day on the island 😢 and I’m filling up on all the local, fresh finds🌟 Fresh green juice, lots of fruit options, scrambled eggs, and a tiny glass of overnight oats! Best way to start before running laps on Wailea Beach, some pool time, and then one last beach walk before the lu’au tonight! 🌺🌊 🌸 Aloha Aku No, Aloha Mai No – “I give my love to you, you give your love to me.”
🌸 E hele me ka pu’olo – “Always Take An Offering With You. Make Every Person Place or Condition Better Than You Left It Always. Wherever You Go, Always Take Something With You.” This Is The Sacred Hawaiian Way, the Way of Abundant Flow Honoring Ke Akua (God) and His Creation Which is Nature.
🌸Hawai’i is currently in a state of flux: shutting down the sugar cane industry, keeping its ecosystem in balance, tourism, etc. But I love how the Hawaiian people stay positive and strong as a culture, as a people, and continue to think and live positively and gracefully. I pray the Hawaiian islands I see today will still be similar to the the way I see it the next time I come back🙏🏼💖... it’s people happy, thriving, and prosperous, maintaining balance. .

part of my #dinner were these @nakdwholefoods salted caramel nibbles topped onto porridge (is it ever too late for oats?). these were yum but didn't taste too much like salted caramel imo
swipe ➡ for an ugly porridge pic 🙈

A Russian Orthodox baptized, Ashkenazi Jew atheist walks into a Muslim restaurant...2/3
While eating my meal, I met the parents. The father loved my beard and, with a bit of exaggerated grief, expressed how he could never grow one as big as mine. He also tried to ride my skateboard through the store, with me catching him just before he took a spill! I finished eating and asked the brothers if we could coordinate a family portrait, to which they cheerfully agreed. Their mother was going to sit the photo out. They explained that, as a Muslim woman, she could not be photographed. As I was about to snap the portrait of the brothers with their father, she came running out of the kitchen, all smiles, and joined her family! What a beautiful moment to witness and capture. It’s moments like this that truly warm my heart and inspire me to travel more. ————————————————

A Russian Orthodox baptized, Ashkenazi Jew atheist walks into a Muslim restaurant...1/3
Tonight for dinner, my favorite vegetarian spot was closed. So I wandered around the area behind my hostel, looking for a restaurant that I could try out. I stumbled into this little family owned joint a few blocks away. Since I can’t speak any Chinese, I’m always using a translator on my phone to ask questions and communicate. They had just what I was looking for; rice with eggs and tomatoes. People seem to get a kick out of translating back and forth with me, so the conversation continued. They were curious if I was Muslim because of my beard. One of the brothers allowed me to take his portrait while the other prepared my meal. ————————————————————————
