Autumn colours here in Le Mans. Lovely weather and a light bottle of red wine to finish off the day. Valencay is a niche AOC in the Loire Valley (165 hectares) that produces young and fruity red wines. The main variety really surprised me: Gamay, the grape I for some reason was only planted in Beaujolais. We learn every day!
The nose is full of primary flavours, mainly red fruits, but there's also a nice amount of minerality that reflects the soil type in the region - rich in flint. This wine is a mid-week winner!
