The MT. Zion covered bridge is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the state, the only covered bridge still standing. It’s nice to see the effort put into preserving this landmark, so that future generations can enjoy it as well. #visitspringfield#kytourism
Springfield, Illinois. All manner of lines and curves going on in this one! This shot is looking up at the dome at the top of the old state capitol building very near the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library. A neat old building.

The 114th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry - performs civil war drills, fires their muskets and holds a flag lowering ceremony in front of the Lincoln Tomb. Each week, one lucky visitor will be presented with the American Flag as a symbol of our gratitude. It's truly a unique and humbling experience.
So most of us have seen the impressive Lincoln's tomb. Located in Springfields' Oak Ridge Cemetary, it's the 2nd most visited cemetary in the country (just behind Arlington). In addition to Abraham Lincoln, it serves as the final resting place to his wife Mary Todd, and all but one child. What many people don't know is Lincoln was originally buried just behind the larger monument in a small tomb built into the side of the hill. There is one heck of a story to tell into what led the move to up the hill to his current tomb. Come visit and hear this fascinating story.
Happy Fourth of July from Sarah Mills Photography! Interesting note of history...did you know that a traditional celebration of Independence Day included the public reading of The Declaration of Independence? Hope your festivities today include a bit of our American heritage. #sarahmillsphotographer#sarahmillsportraits#americanflag
