Fearless Girl is a bronze sculpture by Kristen Visbal, depicting a Latina girl facing the Charging Bull statue. It was installed on March 7, 2017, at Bowling Green in the Financial District of Manhattan, New York City.
Both statues attract hoards of visitors (including me) to the financial district. There are some wonderful historic buildings and streets in the area which are well worth exploring. This part of the city is close to the 9/11 Memorial as well.
Chinatown, New York. You'd be mad to come to NYC without wandering around the colourful communities in Chinatown and Little Italy. Mott Street is really close to the entrance of the Brooklyn Bridge walk.
New York Style. Isamu Noguchi's
sculpture is located in front of 140 Broadway, between Liberty and Cedar Streets. Nice to see this piece of public art amongst all the skyscrapers. Missing #sculpturebythesea in Bondi, my favourite public art event in Sydney.
Ai Wei Wei is no stranger to starting conversations through his artworks and his new series in New York City is no exception. "Arch", a galvanized mild steel and mirror polished stainless steel sculpture in New York City's Washington Square Park is part of the artist's citywide installation project. This work, "Good Fences Make Good Neighbors" - a line from a Robert Frost poem that actually questions whether fences are necessary. He wants people to think about whether fences are needed between the US and Mexico. Ai says "We're all human beings. We have to find a way to benefit each other, help each other, rather than to have hatred with each other." #newyorknewyork
The Flatiron building is a triangular 22-story steel-framed landmarked building located at 175 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, New York City, and is considered to be a groundbreaking skyscraper. Completed in 1902, it was one of the tallest buildings in the city at 20 floors high. The building sits on a triangular block formed by Fifth Avenue, Broadway, and East 22nd Street. The name "Flatiron" literally derives its meaning from its resemblance to a cast-iron clothes iron. #newyorknewyork
