Happy midweek everyone!! The piece of the week goes to a swatch sistem 51. Swatch has always been iconic for making creative and loud pieces. Recently, they had their breakthrough by making swiss mechanical watches affordable. Made with just 51 pieces, the entire movement is held together by a single screw. Really cool and affordable watch in my collection. Check out the full review in my blog in my bio!! #swatch#swisswatches#sistem51#affordablewatches#watchesofinstagram
Wearing a different watch for the first time in two weeks while the watch that has been getting all the wrist time, my Omega DSOTM Vintage Black takes a little bath. After all that wrist time, I've come to the conclusion that as nice as the DSOTM is, it's not something that could my "one-watch" watch.
There are many good things going for the DSOTM and things I have noticed on this trip include the lightweight ceramic case, and the quickset hour hand, which makes adjusting timezones a breeze.
The main issues I found with the DSOTM though, were the strap, and its size. The watch comes with a leather strap that is really nice and comfortable. But Hong Kong when I was there was mostly an environment with ~30°C days and ~80% humidity. I don't like heat and humidity and I sweated quite a bit, and the strap ended up soaking up some of my sweat. By the end of the trip, you could smell an aroma from the strap when you bought it close to your nose.
Sure I could always swap the strap out for something else, but that strap is the unique strap that comes with the watch, and a watch is a sum of its parts, including the strap. Also, I'm not aware of any bracelet that would go well with the black ceramic case. Perhaps a sailcloth strap of sorts might be on the cards.
The size of the watch. It wasn't so much the 44.24mm diameter as it was the thickness of the watch, all 16mm of it, that I found to be the issue. This made the watch feel chunky at times, and somewhat negated it's lightweight feel. It's almost as chunky as a G-Shock.
Don't get me wrong. It's a very enjoyable watch to wear and admire, and I'll keep wearing the watch on rotation through my watch collection, but I don't see it going on many trips with me. Not unless I'm taking other watches along, or there's a special purpose.

This watch is an interesting one. Sure it looks like any ordinary Invicta; however, it houses a Seiko NH35 movement, for which there is a vibrant modification community. There's endless possibilities for what this watch can become, and when I post this again, it will have a different dial, bezel, crystal, and set of hands. It will be unrecognizable. I can't wait to get started!
