The Poulnabrone Dolmen portal tomb, built high on a limestone plateau of the Burren, is the oldest dated megalithic monument in Ireland. The tomb suggests that the early peoples had a deep respect for the land and their ancestors. In spring, tiny wildflowers sprout from the cracks in the limestone pavement, reminding us of new life. In the words of Tony Kirby from Heart of Burren Walks, "these temples of stone are temples of the dead but also places for the living. Sometimes you look in there and don't see death at all; you see life."
