Like a giant candle - Gas flares are used to dispose of unwanted or excess flammable gases that are the byproduct of a number of industrial processes. They can be found on offshore oil rigs, at landfills, chemical plants and more. They’re cool to look at, but a significant source of pollution. In the US, the equivalent to about 25% of our annual natural gas consumption is flared every year, burned for lack of a place to put it or a pipe to transport it. Such is the catch 22 nature of the petroleum industry. #droneloops#oilindustry#flammable#pyro
