So after my freak out about about Halloween costumes over on Facebook I have a black tutu and witches hat for one daughter and a white tutu and crown for the other daughter. A witch and a princess....their choice! Reusable costumes for the win.
And thanks to a lovely reminder in that thread about my awesome choc chip cookies recipe I made a big double batch, rolled them into small balls instead of biscuit shapes and voila! Have our 'treat' sorted.
If only I didn't know how good these tasted straight from the freezer.... What do you give trick or treaters? Recipe for these is on my blog, website link in bio x
homemade sushi is the 💥. avocados are in season and my favorite sushi combo has always been cucumber & avocado. if you think it's to complicated i challenge you to youtube a diy sushi video 💻 and you'll see how easy it really is. this is a perfect snack/meal to take on adventures 🌄
GARLIC & COCONUT DHAL.
So we've been pretty distracted in the @feedmybabybetter household and haven't posted much recently....Chris has been off work which is like having a third child around (😜) and we've been out of routines so lots of off-the-cuff (read unhealthy & heavy on the bread!!) meals. .
But we're getting back on track today with super yummy Garlic & Coconut Dhal. Albie & Dolly have theirs with a blob of natural yogurt and I added some king prawns and a mound of chopped coriander to ours. We had them with freshly made chapatti's & puri's from our local Indian restaurant.
I think dhal is ultimate comfort/winter food....hearty, warming and delicious. Also full of awesome anti-inflammatory ingredients (garlic, onions, turmeric) and its crazy cheap to boot 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Dolly demolished this (she is proving to be the eater of our children) whilst Albie lobbed his spoon across the room, ate his puri and sulked that he wasn't eating fish fingers (probably 😝) .
We were enjoying some #aimless exploring in the little alleys and bougainvillea clad buildings of Shela, #Lamu when a friendly looking local dude popped his head out of a doorway. He asked if we were lost and then proceeded to show us a tattered book full of tourist recommendations. Turned out that we had met none other than 'Ali Samosa'. This chance meeting led to some ridiculously good fish #samosas and fresh #tamarind juice that afternoon before we returned two days later for a 3 course lunch cooked by Ali's wife. While it wasn't the cheapest lunch at USD15 each holy moly was it #delicious . We had more awesome samosas, onion bajias, a truly epic spiced and #slowroasted piece of #tuna , Lamu pancake of prawns, more tamarind juice and some outstanding passion fruit juice. After all this we were completely shattered and sweating from all the tasty goodness but Ali's wife had one more surprise up here sleeve....Creme Caramel with the tiniest hint of cardamom. Giddy-up, that Creme Caramel was the business. If you're in Lamu and fancy a smashing meal make sure you seek out Ali Samosa and his awesome wife.
This morning I had absolutely no idea what to make for our supper tonight....
I was totally clueless....
I usually nag everyone in the house the night before on what meal to prepare for the next day.
The usual answer is “Anything” or “I don’t know” 😏🙄 I was so tempted to order take outs but the long drive to the nearest halaal takeaway was totally out of the question.... After a few minutes of digging into my freezer....I had a light bulb moment 💡🙌 Homemade Nandos Meal was what I was gonna make 💃🏻 Pictured:
Peri Peri Chicken
Grilled Corn on the Cob smeared with butter and dustings of cayenne pepper, salt & fresh thyme (ready to be grilled in the picture) .
Baked Rosemary & Thyme red skin potato wedges
Grilled Garlic & Parsley bread rolls (ready to be grilled in the picture) .
And a quick salad of sorts....
So I went from being totally clueless to cooking up a storm this afternoon.
To think that my first option was take outs 😱..... I have absolutely no recipes for any of the items on my menu but I will compile it and post it when I do.
Watch for notifications on my insta stories for it 👀
Jummah Mubarak and Have a lovely evening ❤️
it's been a while since we made juices/smoothies each morning and i'm sure feeling the difference so today and everyday this week i will post on my insta-stories what we're drinking each morning ..... as long as the internet cooperates ..... here we have dial-up living on this beautiful island.
Sushi ! The left roll was kinda sweet (Alamo roll) and the right was 🌶 spicy (habanero roll) . We liked the spicy one best 😬 Do you guys like your sushi more sweet or spicy ? Also cream cheese is a must, am I right ?! 🍣🍙🍘
