A really pretty wind chime from my Mom @seadogs3 that is now hanging right by where I always sit on the lanai. I may never get over losing my Chip but I know that I will carry him in my heart forever. We love you always Chip.
A film you may have missed, but should go and discover is Raymond Briggs adapted amination from 1987 ‘When the Wind Blows’. Raymond Briggs is known for his Christmas stories #TheSnowman (1982), #FatherChristmas (1991) and ‘The Bear’ (1998) which have been adapted into films and stage plays. But why not try one of Raymond Briggs other stories? ‘When the Wind Blows’ (1987) is by far his best work but defiantly not for young children!
James and Hilda Bloggs, voiced by the late great Sir #JohnMills and Dame #PeggyAshcroft , are an elderly couple living an idyllic retirement in their little cottage. But the world is in conflict and James realises from the newspapers that nuclear war is imminent. Using his government issued pamphlet he sets about preparing as his wife carries on as if nothing is going to happen.
Raymond Briggs based the preparation James carries out on the real British government pamphlet ‘Protect and Survive’. A virtually useless set of instructions that give you the idea that surviving the aftermath of a nuclear war was achievable!
James and Hilda’s story is very sad but at the same time touching and thoughtful. Their futile attempts at survival may make you angry, but remember this is real advice the government gave out! You will feel for this couple.
The film has a great soundtrack, with #DavidBowie performing the title track.
You know you’re watching a classic when you’re drawn back to this movie again and again even though you know what’s going to happen. These animated pensioners make me cry every time.
